The "small" improvements

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 1:31 am

!There may be some spoiler warnings in this thread. If you recently started out the game, don't read! :smile:

I don't want this to turn out into a flame war. This is most of the things that i think would help improve this game by a lot. And English is not my native tongue so please be gentle of any wrong spellings.

Misc (World)
* Make us be able to actually have conversation with NPC's. Offend them, make them happy and so on..

* Disable the "Auto-talks" feature. Am pretty sure that most people here just don't bladder out anything to the first person they see just run by them.

* Stop treat us like crap. It really don't matter, RP wise if you are a newcomer or the leader of a "guild". They still treat you like nothing.. So far i have only tried out Mages College, Companions, Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild. Not sure if there are any more to join but they do at least treat you like crap.

* As for now there ain't really any perks of being a leader. You cant send people of to missions for example. The only perk (really small though considering the effort) of becoming a leader for the thieves guild. Is the small amount of gold and a gemstone that is generated in the guild master chest once now and then.

* Make it more interactive to be married. Marriage is even more useless in the game then it is in real life. And make re-marriage able as well. I mean i forgot to visit my in-game wife for 90 days. And not a word, no nothing. Not even a courier searching for me to deliver a note. Am pretty sure my RL wife would be rather pissed if i did that to her :smile:

* Make sleeping/eating more.. Viable? Am not saying a player is going to be forced to eat/sleep. Make buff food? Increase stamina and magicka regenenration if you are well slept for example. The little things can make such a difference.

* Easier Home decoration :smile:

* Need / Want to put firewood in the fireplace. Why cant i do that? Why won't the wood burn up?

Some other changes:

Okay am a brute warrior, the leader of the companions and ontop of it am a werewolf. I have full daedric (No i don't i hate it. But many here do have it. Yay for them..)
And still not even beggars look up and are envy, impressed, scared. I solo handed (pretty much) killed Alduin, the world eater or whatever they call him. Can't i have atleast SOME respect? No the world goes on as if it was no change.

* Make a small celebration, maybe even a cinematic when the player reach the first hold he/she visits. Where they shout and cheer at him/her. Make even a small statue resembling the character in that town that he/she first visits. To honor the character for the efforts. I mean its really not a "small task" to ask from someone.

This pretty much covers any type of character you play.. Warrior, Mage or as me, assassin.

Crime changes
This is the part where am most familiar. Am really no dungeon crawler (i do it but not very often)

Example;
From the dark brotherhood and the night mother i receive my contracts. So i have killed say 15 Shield-maiden's in Markarth so far.
On top of that i have also stolen around 10.000 gold of stuff (And gold) from the same city, from the thieves guild quest's.

And nothing, the guard's are not worried of this massive crime spree. Not even a wanted flyer for the times you might get caught and make a leg for it. You can kill everything in a city, run.. fast travel, fast travel back.. The guards arrest you, you get out and they still treat you the same.. Not even suspicious. They like; "Oh hello friend (who killed 20 people in the city and stole tons of goods) how are we today? You want a sweet roll?"

In short; Make the world interact with your character's actions. Make us pay dearly if we get caught, make the guards paranoid when am around after ive been sent to jail for mass murder / Mass theft. Hell make even a guard follow me on distance for a short time (Or i make my good deed for the jarl / Steward / whatever)

Yeah I really don't undertsand why Bethesda didn't include some of the things you mentioned, especially the dialouge options for your character. I would've thought they'd learn from Fallout 3 and make it even better.

Well if am not mistaking, they had something similar in TES Daggerfall..

Well, if you have done all of the Dark Brotherhood, some of the guards do act a little weird around you. They say things like
Spoiler
"Hey, I know who you are. These are good folk around here, just trying to get by" and things like that.
And some of the Thieves Guild people are still a little rude, but not all of them. It's in their nature to act rude to you (especially Vex), they did it to

Mercer Frey
as well. Some of the food does give you buffs, but I think it's meant to be eaten in combat, or just before you fight. I do think there needs to be more interaction with your spouse, more benefits, etc. But, to people who actually roleplay to a further extent, DO go home every night to their spouse, eat meals, sleep, etc. Your spouse is actually busy at the house too, running their little business. My husband in game will greet me like "Are you back from some great adventure?" because he knows I've been busy away from the home. As far as people acting weird around you when you do things in cities and then you come back and everything is peachy keen, the game isn't really designed for everyone to be mad at you all the time (regardless of what you did). I'm the type of player who quick saves before I do anything I might regret or get "caught" doing, because I don't want to go to jail or pay fines (unless I have to). But yes, some of the things you said would be nice to be implemented, but some of the people DO react to things you've done or said, it's just not everybody. :)

Only thing ive heard is;

"I know your kind.. Always sneaking about.." Could be cause am a cat aswell? :)

And "There are stories of you and dark tidings in Dawnstar"

Am just a firm believer that "You get what you deserve" really.. Thats all it comes down to.. Ulfric killed the High King, he is wanted all over.. I killed THE EMPEROR! TWICE !! (since first was a.. yeah)

Roughly i think i have executed enough people to clear out two holds in the name of Sithis. But no.. :)

The game overall is awesome though, cant stop! :)

I guess I also think "Would you call out or 'back-talk' a member

in our cases, the known leader
of the Dark Brotherhood?" It could be out of fear. That's how I think sometimes. But, even though I enjoyed the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood the most, and that is what my character does a lot of, I don't think of my character as evil. To each, their own, of course! :)

It seems this is not a "small" improvement, but I miss it too. The lack of it makes speechcraft pretty useless.

Indeed, it's really sad how irrelevant the main quest is. In Oblivion, we got a freaking statue of our character. Why is that suddenly impossible in Skyrim? Why doesn't anybody notice? Why has nothing changed at all?

I definately miss the recognition from Oblivion. It was small recognition but the NPC's realized if you were something a bit more special. It would be nice to see a bit more love (or hate depending on the npc's) for big accomplishments in the game like civil war, guild quests and of course killing dragons.
