Hey, i know a few people are having problems with repairing the phial quest starting, just wondering if there is a console command to force it to start or any other suggestions.

Yeah, same here. According to the game guide you must have "The White Phial" and "Throat of the World" completed. And then you must wait at least 3 in game days. After that, a courier is supposed to find you with a letter from the son of the dying alchemist.

It's been over a month now (real time) and I'm done with all the main quest lines and I still haven't got the 2nd part of the White Phial yet.

If I visit the store, the old guy who is sleeping and dying still talks (while sleeping) to me about having coin and loitering.

On the console you can use

player.additem 000249AF 1

That is the letter from Quintus. Reading it starts the quest. Usually a courier would hand it to you but all you need is the note.

I'm fairly certain that my courier was killed by bandits when he tried to run up to me while I was stalking them. He had the whole camp beating on him. No courier note on him after the fact, so I suspect my quest is broken. Gonna try the add item to see if it will start again.

Unfortunately, you can't do that on PS3.

I've had plenty of couriers come to me with notes from a friend (to find word walls). So I know he isn't dead.

It must be glitched in my game.

Just a thought, what happens if you return to the store and talk to Quintus, the assistant? The quest comes from him and not the old man.

Tried that a hundred times already. Nothing ever happens.

You could try consolling this. Save your game first though and if it doesn't work revert to your save, since forcing quest stages might stuff things up even further.

Bummer. In which case I have no idea, it all worked fine for me. One question though; when you delivered the broken phial to the old boy, and collected your reward of 5 Septms, did you talk to Quintas before you left the store?

The reason I ask is that I have a theory, based on watching a friend play, that the reason why some people have broken quests, or quests not starting, is that the game is heavily dependent on dialogue triggers - skipping, or clicking through, a conversation may stop a trigger from firing down the road. I am not sure how widespread this effect is, but I have solid evidence that it can break/stop at least some quests.

Isn't it also dependent on level?

I did. I always listen to every line of dialogue characters have. It svcks. I've managed my way through the entire game and completed every quest line but can't finish this one.

This one was one that couldn't really be worked around seeing there were other pre-requisites. There was no way of me knowing I wouldn't get the quest after doing Throat of the World and waiting 3 days. Especially when I didn't do "Throat" until way after "The White Phial".

I'm hoping the patch fixes it.
