Favourite dungeons [SPOILERS]

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 12:11 am

To me, I enjoy Labyrinthian, it already starts on the outside with a bunch of snowtrolls inhabbiting the ruins. Reminded me alot of the movie Congo, inside when done with the Winterhold mage quests, its fun to see how theyre group gets picked of one by one untill theres only one left standing, not to mention the voice of the evil deep below speaking to you.
Im always on my toes in draugr dungeons for traps, but this time I was really on my toes expecting to get jumped by some slay-all-creature of doom any moment. Very good dungeon, one of the best Tes games have given us.
Another one is Soljunds Sinkhole, not big, but i love the fact that there is nothing but a bunch of weak draugr and at the end theres a Deadlord, with a firebolt spewing trap to back him up. Always a fun fight.
Most of Falmer caves always are a bit more intense then most caves with other inhabitants, and theyre layouts usually are nicely done aswell. Try to avoid them for higher level, a combination of Nightprowlers or even Gloommasters with Chaurus reapers can be quite deadly. Those creatures give the best challenge in the game if you ask me.

I think so far it's sightless pit. I jumped in not expecting much but was blown away. With out spoiling what made it good it's west of the shrine of Azura. I walked out with a Dadric Bow as well!

I think my pick is Nchuand-zel, the Dwemer ruin beneath Markarth. The Lost Expedition quest was pretty fun I thought, and the whole place was huge and dangerous with a lot to do and a lot to find inside. And getting out of the ruin after the quest is over was fun too.

Some of the daedric dungeons were quite unique. I liked the inside of Azura's star one and the blood-moon one for Hircine. The werewolf in that was placed on a high ledge with the huge red moon right behind was a memorable scene.

The hidden valleys are quite cool as well, like the secret snowy valley you reach through the barrow on the mountain up above Dragonbridge.

Irkngthand's last room was awesome. I'd love to know the full history of that statue and whether or not there are others like it.

I enjoy Yngol Barrow; mostly for the little bouncy balls of light that accompany you on your journey through; it's small but fun.

Darkwater Pass is one of my favorites because of the scenery at the exit, and an Argonian is available for a follower. Most of the "Nature" gaurded caves and canyons are good for scenery and loot.

Ironbind Barrow is fun cuz going through it is different, and it has a good reward. The tough part is the boss fight at the end, rather than mucking through the dungeon.

I was blown away by blackreach. I felt so lost and distanced from the world, and at the same time I couldnt feel anything but awe at the mystique of the place.

Both the Potema dungeons were rather excellent with cool effects and really hard especially at higher levels. http://youtu.be/z9nX7QRjm7c

I liked Frostmere Crypt. Was just trying to get from Markarth to the Jagged Crown dungeon and stumbled upon this place. Was a dungeon where a quest starts outside. There is a little story discovered through dialogue, over heard conversations and read journals culminating in a cool little boss fight and an incredibly beautiful final room. The final room is one of the most beautiful locations in the game imo

Blackreach was just... wow. I didn't fully explore it since I just rushed to the tower to complete the quest and then seek for Mjoll, since I lost her in Alftand Cathedral. Luckily she mysteriously spawned somewhere in the tower, but I still forgot to go back to Blackreach. Must do that Crimson Nirnroot quest soon.

I wasn't all that impressed with Blackreach, It's pretty and all but there just wasn't anything there. Once the initial Wow factor wares off its basically a huge empty space with nothing to do in it. At least to me anyways.

I guess it isn't that interesting adventure-wise, but it appeals to me because I'm the kind of a person for wandering around and looking at pretty things. And Blackreach has quite a lot of things that just make you stare in amazement, like the Silent City. But when I want to go solve puzzles, dodge traps and fight bosses, it ain't really the place to go.

I really enjoyed the Afflicted, Peryite, quest to kill the Orchendor (spelling?)

Quite a few enemies to kill on the way through, and quite well designed.

Agreed. I even took a pic of the last room! The statue is very impressive. The whole dungeon is pretty tricky and well worth going through.

I was blown away by blackreach. I felt so lost and distanced from the world, and at the same time I couldnt feel anything but awe at the mystique of the place.

Oh yes, Blackreach is definitely my favorite place! It is a bit empty, once you dispatch the creeps that live there. lol I wish it would have been more populated.

In addition, the dungeons I enjoyed were:

Mzinchaleft (I just love the atmosphere and the steam and the sounds in Dwemer ruins)
Ustengrav - with the broken bridges and the beautiful scenery in the center. Plus, when the statues rise out of the water at the end, that's just epic.
Twilight Sepulcher - it was like running a gauntlet
Kagrenzel - won't say anything about it, you have to experience it ;)
Frostflow LIghthouse - very creepy and scary!
Abandoned Prison - also rather creepy and sad

OMG come to think of it, there are a ton of awesome places in this game and there's no way I can list them all! :D

I'm just about to go in with the Dead lord. Any tips ?

Saarthal is a good beginner's dungeon. I got through it on about level 10. A nice tester. Labyrinthian is a fun night out too, haven't finished it yet but you don't need to kill everything. Stealth avoids many of the baddies and this was the first time it worked like that for me. Even crept by the wisps at very close range.

Yeah, that was cool, except my prior experience with little bouncy balls of light made me very tense, expecting one of the ghostly witch thingies to show up.

One of my favorite finds thus far was Valthume. I see a map marker, head toward it, ended up with a quest, a story and a hell of a boss fight at the end.

There have been a few dungeons or places where a story unfolds if you pick up the scraps of paper, journals. I cannot remember the exact one, and it was probably related to a quest - but you realize the dragon cultists in the distant past and their families committed mass suicide rather than surrender. The notes were well done and it was actually sad.
