Assassination + Soul Trap Weapon

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 4:54 am

Ok, so if I have Soul Trap enchant on a dagger, and assassinate somebody, will I fill a soul gem? I've heard a couple different answers on this - some saying the spell has to last 3 seconds before the kill or such?

Any clear answers on this?

Yes. I keep my fiery soul trap enchantment on my Daedric dagger just for the purpose of using it to gather souls when I need them and not use up an enchantment on my main weapon. Works with assassinations.

IIRC, the enchant on a weapon will always fill a soul gem IF you have a large enough (and empty) gem on you. Now, a human target.... you know a "normal" gem won't capture a human soul, right?

Sweet, thanks for the confirmation!

Try to have at least a 3 second soul trap. The kill animations will mess up the any shorter soul traps because the effect is applied at the start of the animation, but expires before the end of the animation where the enemy drops dead.

Try to have at least a 3 second soul trap.

Is this based on the enchant power or something? Just made character haven't started enchanting yet.

I've seen a couple of the cutaway animations fail to trap souls when they go off, but for the most part, they work reliably. As others have pointed out, a longer duration soul trap helps. I have my Fiery Soul Trap set to 4 seconds, works great.

Yep. Do the following:

1) get the Black Star
2) Kill a bandit
3) Disenchant your current soul-trapping weapon, and manually enchant a new weapon with a 3-4 second charge.

My dagger had a 1 second soul trap and it always collects souls from an assassinations. I use a 1 second enchant because it allows more charges, so many actually that I've never had to refill it. You don't have to have a 3 second enchantment, that's nonsense. As long as you make the killing blow a 1 second will work.

As long as your NOT dual wielding and finish the kill with your non soul trap weapon, or have some damage enchantment finish them off, i.e., if they catch on fire then die from the fire 4 seconds after you last hit them, you're out of luck.

Trap time increases with Enchanment level

Usually you get 4 seconds when enchanting with Soul Trap. That means you have to kill someone within 4 seconds when encounter an enemy. With a Encantment potion you can raise the limit to 6 seconds. You do not trap a soul by every kill. Guards and Necromancers resist soul trap. Your soul trap enchantment bar is usually displayed right above your stamina bar or your magicka bar. If you're on PS3, go to our weapon and click on R2. You can then choose a gem to fill it again. I usually use petty gems for filling my soultrap. Just keep on clicking untill your bar is full again. Happy hunting.

No, it means the enemy must die within 4 seconds of you striking them with your soul trap weapon. If it's the only weapon you're using (and you aren't simultaneously using offensive magic), then it's not an issue whether it's 1 second or 10 seconds. However, you need to be careful when dual wielding that you don't forget to use your enchanted weapon right before the enemy dies.

Same. I only ever use 1 second enchantments and still capture soul if the animation kicks in
