Character idea..

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 1:21 am

So am about to make yet another character.. What i have in mind is.. ehr.. well sort of paladin..

Skills am planning to use is
One handed
Restoration
Heavy Armor (Enchanted with resto stats i think)
Enchanting (or blacksmithing)
Destruction

These are what i maybe will have aswell
Block
Conjuration

Race? am thinking of an Imperial for this.. They do look good :) (Specially the female ones)

Idea behind this character is to wield a one hander and use heal in "off-hand"

You people think this could work? Any ideas of a better race (No elf's. Has to be suitable for the type of character aswell)

I wouldn't go with One Handed, two spell types and Block unless you're more than happy to switch to a shield every time the enemy is at close range (which will be a lot). The concept of healing in left hand and weapon in right hand is tried and tested, and it works, especially with heavy armour to give you that much more defence.

An Imperial is the obvious choice - the +10 to Restoration will be nice at early levels, and will let you perk the skill after the very first level. However, I would suggest that you go for some originality, and be an Orc. This is why:
  • +10 http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Heavy_Armor
  • +5 http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Block, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Enchanting, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:One-handed, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Smithing, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Two-handed
  • The 'Berserker Rage' power.
All the skills there are ones you mentioned, excepting Two-Handed. It would mean you'd have to briefly concentrate on raising Destruction and Restoration, but 1) it would make for an extremely original character, 2) the +10 to Heavy Armour (arguably the slowest growing skill you've mentioned) will keep you safe and allow you to train both Restoration and Heavy Armour in its damage-tanking capabilities. The Orc power makes you deal double damage, and receive half damage, for sixty seconds. In exchange for a little bit of work regarding magic, you gain access to the best racial power in the game, instead of the Imperial option - calming someone down for a bit. :P

I like the bonus stats on the orc better.. agreed.. But an Orc "Holy Warrior" ?

Am one of those few who write down a story for my character.. This character has been sent to Skyrim from Cyrodiil (Wherever really) to investigate why the crypts have started to show active movements... (Maybe silly but its what i have so far) :)

The Orcs are a disciplined, hardy race. If you've been to any of the Orc Strongholds, you'll know that they worship Malacath - and they're serious about it. Battling in honour of Malacath, bringing him glory through the power of the Orc race, is very feasible. There's no reason why you can't be an Orcish 'Holy Warior', it's just not their stereotype. By the same token, the thief you're sat with on the cart in the opening sequence of the game is an Imperial, the supposed 'good race'. There's a Nord mage at the College of Winterhold. The stereotypes are there for you to break. :)

Conjuration is very powerful but summoning daedra and raising undead doesn't really suit a divine paladin. I think you should consider smithing instead so you can make the most out of heavy armor. Imperials are clearly the best choice for a cleric or paladin like character.

I made my paladin type character an undead hating Imperial, sworn to Arkay's service. She was in Skyrim because she heard the place was swarming with undead.

I picked Imperial because they were skilled in restoration and heavy armor, and it just felt right... Focusing in Heavy Armor, Blocking, One Hand and Restoration for healing and turning undead. For crafting I went for Smithing, with a smattering of enchanting. I never really bothered much with other skills, but I do sometimes use 'holy' fire spells to reach out of sword range targets. I also use a flaming 'Holy Avenger' sword.

Yes i know.. But they can also summon atronarchs.. Which (in my world atleast) aint all to wrong :)

I dont want BOTH smithing and enchanting.. Ive heard of the god-mode it brings and i dont want that.. Since this is my first character i actually allow use of/wear magical stuff :P

I started a similar character, but more of a battle cleric than a paladin. Main focus is on restoration, but after that, heavy armor, block, two-handed (only use maces/hammers), and destruction. No sneak or archery at all. I'm doing smithing, but only taking the steel perk (and probably the arcane perk eventually), and I will only wear up to steel armor (I like the way the steel plated looks). I may do enchanting eventually, but only after much higher level. I am stockpiling soul gems and filling them, but won't actually enchant any of my items for a long while. I probably won't do much if any alchemy. The idea is to be strong enough in restoration magic that I don't need potions- or very many potions, anyway.

So far, it's been a blast (about level 14 at the moment).

My paladin is now level 6.. Only put perks in Restoration and in Enchanting tree so far (Resto being dominant) and i must say, resto is awesome :)

I do have a question.. the perk "Cure 50% more" ? Does this mean that my heal spells actually cures stuff or does it mean they HEAL for 50% more?
