[spoilers] Companions and being good

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 7:28 am

Hi

I am at a quest where I can become werewolf (Meet Skjor at Night).

My intention in this (my first) playthrough is playing as a good allignment character who serves Imperials, and as I am a warrior, the Companions seems to be the only guild suited for that. Becoming a werewolf doesn't exactly seem to be good nor honorable.

What should I do?

1). If I decide to become a werewolf, can I be cured from it?

2). What are disadvantages of being a werewolf?

3). Is becoming a werewolf the only way to complete the Companions questline?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can get cured from it. No rested bonus, but do you sleep a lot? You may get fleas.

You're 100% disease resistant, so you don't have to keep checking to see if you've picked up anything. You just may get remarks from guards like "you smell like a wet dog" or "is that fur growing out of your ears". If you are seen shifting by a guard it's an instant bounty. Guards will attack you on sight if you are in beast form. You are exceptionally strong. You can cover a lot of ground very fast. You do not heal in beast form unless you kill a human and eat them (why they didn't include animals in this I don't know). Other than this I don't see a downside. I've been one for 46 levels. You don't have to shapeshift.

And yes, you do need to be a werewolf to continue in the main Companions questline. I'm not sure if you can refuse lycanthropy and just keep doing jobs, though. That would be cool.

The Companions seem to me more fitting for a Stormcloak-aligned player - one true to the heritage of Ysgramor and the 500 Companions. I guess you could make it work for a supporter of the Imperials, though. But you might also want to consider the Legion for your character, if you haven't already.

But the Companions questline is pretty much entirely "good" - my only qualm is the "enforcer" jobs Farkas wants you to do. I refuse those every time.

I'm playing an old-school Nord warrior right now and loved the Companions questline. I guess I could cure my lycanthropy, but I never got around to it and the 100% disease resistance means I no longer fear skeevers.

Just be a werewolf, I'm one and have changed once when I first became one. Does not actively affect me at all unlike ampirism.

I'm playing as a good guy and become a werewolf just to move forward in the Companions.
Its fun to turn into one once or twice but you soon forget about that ability and get on with your game.

Awesome, thanks for the replies. I guess I'm going to have to be more flexible in the game.

And don't forget that, as Dovahkiin, you have dragon's blood in your veins so why not some wolf's blood...

When I first walked in to talk to Kodlak, he and Vilkas/Farkas (whichever it is) was telling him you have the support of me and my brother, of course. I later find out that Kodlak is a werewolf and wants a cure to gain entrance to Sovngarde. As a good character, I decided I would help him. Later, when asked to become a werewolf, I realize to gain enough influence to help Kodlak, I'll have to agree to become a werewolf. I agonized over it for a day, but returned the next night to join.

I have no clue how the story ends, but a good character can certainly justify joining.

Minor point: Vilkas wears Wolf armor, Farkas wears plain steel.

Yes, I did that quest on my first play-through and rushed through it as fast as possible to get the cure.

On my second playthrough I joined the Companions but only did the first two radiant quests and the first main quest after which your journal is cleared completely. So at that point you can stop and never do the werewolf part of it. Its a good solution because you still gain access to the Skyforge armory.
