Elemental Resist

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 5:56 am

I know that there are some topics about that, but I haven't found answer for my question yet.

It's clear for me that magic resist is capped at 80% or 85%, but is there any chance to achieve magic invulnerabity by enchanting equipment with 100% resistance to fire, frost and shock? I've read in the past that there were some people who accomplished it as I described above but it was before 1.3. Is it still possible?

No.

Magic resistance is 80%, and I assume the elemental resistances are around 80% to. You can't be immune to elemental magic.

Are you sure? How about the Dunmer with their respective 50% resistance to fire...or the Nords with 50% cold resist. If on top of that you would get to 80% Magic resist, then they should be immune to Fire and Frost magic attacks would they not?

Nope. Resistance to Element or Resistant to Magic overrides the other one. Not sure which does which, I think it depends on whatever is higher and if it applies to what you get hit by.

Effects from different sources are multiplicative, not additive.

So 85% magic res combined with 85% fire resist results in 0.15 * 0.15 = 0.0225. or 97.75% fire resistance. You can never be completely immune, but I'd say taking only 2.25% damage is good enough

I'm almost sure elemetal resistance is not caped. Anyway, being immune to the three elemental damage type didn't make you immune to being paralised or being killed by vampire's health absoption to put two examples.

@bcs
Where are you getting your information from?
I found this post:
Expected damage = ( 1 - magic absorption ) * ( 1 - magic resist ) * ( 1 - elemental resist ) * damage
From: http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/41933/is-resist-magic-multiplicative-or-additive

You can reduce the damage taken from spells up to 3%. However I really don't see the point of going past 85% if you can't get 100%.
And OP if your "clear" about the resist cap how come you don't know if it's 80 or 85%?

That was mentioned in the "let's min-max" thread if I remember correctly.

Your equation seems identical to mine, except it is wrong in the very first bracket - Magic Absorbtion is calculated completely separately from Magic Resistance and Elemental Resistance and works in a different way.

Hmm that is a shame, and it is weird i think that they did like that.
