I have the xbox360 version of the game. The basic question is, how do I tell what diseases (if any) my character has? I acquired something from a wolf and I couldn't see any indication that I had it anywhere.

Go to magic and active effects.

if you go to your active effects tab in your magic screen it will show as red(negative)to get rid take potions or pray at any alter.try do this quickly or you may end up with a problem that could be hard to get rid of

On a related note, does anyone else not get notifications of diseases?

I never noticed one, only discovered disease by drained stats.
Either I don't get any notification, or I failed to pay attention.

I have seen notifications. I think I miss a lot of them, though, because they typically happen in the middle of battle.

You get a message "you have contracted _______________", but I miss it 90% of the time. It is a white message and well, most my screen tends to be white in this game.
