Why is Alduin so easy? **SPOILERS**

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 1:59 pm

I've just beat Alduin on my first playthrough in under two minutes.

Dragonrend, nightingale blade, and chain lightning was all it took.

Hit him with DR, he fell, pummeled him with NB, and CL. He tried to fly again, i did it all over again, and in less then 2 minutes he was dead.

And i was worried that at level 39 I wouldn't be strong enough yet.

Are there any other boss fights that are more challenging after the main quest is over?

Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but... where's the huge 20 minute final boss fight I was expecting?

TES's combat system is too simplistic for a 20 minute long boss fight.

It's hack & slash with most fight outcomes being determined by the HP/Damage stats of the othe foes.

The quality of your armor, your level and your attacks/abilities far outweight the skillcap in this game (which isn't very high).

Basically, if Alduin was harder, people who had not maxed their skills & armors or played a weak combat spec wouldn't be able to defeat him no matter how skilled they were unless they exploited the AI.

Because they didn't do anything to make the fight any more interesting than any other dragon fight, and he also does not seem to scale his stats correctly. Plus, we also have three invincible npcs who can all use dragonrend on him, who can quite handily tank his blows and deal respectable damage to him, even though he utterly trounced them when they were alive and at their prime.

My theory is that he's far weaker in his realm than in Skyrim/Tamriel. Ever notice how the game won't let you kill him in Skyrim? But this invincibility/immortality goes away when he returns to his realm in Sovengarde, where he replenishes his strength. Which would mean he returns to being "normal" i.e. mortal there. So it was to your advantage that he was in a weakened state and in Sovengarde making it easier for you to kill him  That bum nuggetry being said, I agree, it IS a trifle easy to snuff him out. But then again, you could always go for a real challenge the next time around---trying killing him nekkid with the Wabberjack

edit: I forgot we now have CK....still exploring the godlike wonders of what that amazing piece of coding tool can do! :tes:

There could be something to this idea. In Tolkien, Sauron lost a bit of his power each time he was vanquished. Perhaps the devs had a similar idea in mind here.

Alduin is easy because the developers are not listening...

We had the same problem with Jygglagg is Shivering Isles

We had the same problem with Umaril in KoTN

Only Oblivion got it right with Merhunes Dagon...

The devs are not listening

He was still too easy with Deadly Dragons. I thought Aspect of Alduin and Magma dragons were harder but w/e.
One of the reasons he is easy is because of the three essential npcs they give you for help.

It is good that you can make the dragon tougher, but I am not bothered about having a tough fight (that is the reason why I like this game so much)

LOL I like a nice easy fight (I do not think I will be venturing off the novice level  )

I didn't have a problem with Alduin and his falling meteors. I had a problem with the Ancient Dragons. I think the numbers are the factor.

Perhaps the devs have different priorities to you? There are many of us here who do not want to spent two hours grinding down the health of our enemy, and then get one-shotted just before we succeed. As others have pointed out, once Alduin can no longer steal souls he's just another dragon. Which is as it should be.

many boss fight are rely on their "adds" or mobs, which required skill for adds-handling, or aggro-management, and tanking.
a good design good can make this challenging.
most mmo employed this game element, most pc games are half-done, or spoiled due to poor AI.
