Can you make potions that increase Destruction spell damage?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 12:17 pm

If so, what is the effect called. Fortify Destruction? If so, how would fortifying the Destruction skill increase the damage, since Destruction spells don't scale?

(I'm just trying to find ways to make Destruction magic more powerful, since Bethesda probably won't be fixing it any time soon, if at all.)

EDIT: This page confuses the hell out of me: http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Fortify_Destruction

Elixir of Destruction 000398f3 0.5 530 Fortify Destruction 50 pts for 60 secs

I'm trying to find a way to use the command console to add a permanent Destruction buff. Is there a way to do that? If so, is it dependent on my Alchemy level?

There are no permanent alchemy based buffs I am aware of, even via the console. Fortify desctruction potions boost damage by a % over a small time frame. You would need to either use a mod or constanly type the potion command in console.

Better off using a balanced magic mod.

So, using the command player.addspell 000398f3 (Fortify Destruction) still has the time limit of using a potion?

I think so, since the command is simply activating a potions effect, so it still has its time limit. Cant say for certain as I dont play on PC, but tbh I strongly suggest a balanced magic mod for better gameplay.

I'm sorry, I checked it out, but I'm just having a hard time understanding how to read what it says.

You can buff your magic with fortifying potions, I am not aware of any way to permanently boost your magic in any way.

Well that's sickeningly depressing. Here's to hoping Bethesda's next patch fixes Destruction.

They should just give us spell creation so it can give us options as mages. It is depressing how gutted the magic system is.

I agree with you entirely. I really love the game, and I disagree with a lot of the complaints people have, but the game really does seem unfinished in it's magic system.

This is one of my biggest complaints and I strongly advocate it.

The spell creation was the soul of the magic system without it its a shell a husk of its former self. Spell creation is basically the study of the arcane, tinkering with the very fabric of the Mundus. It makes sense mages can learn to change their craft.

We also need the old spell types we list that was in past games, that would farther open up our options, options we once had.

I know alot of people miss this, but Nords are supposed to be a strong hardy race and the majority of them in the game think magic is for the weak or elves... I think if this was implemented in the game it should be limited to certain races.

I disagree. You should not be limited by race to play as you choose. You should have the option not to do it if you do not wish. You should be able to do it if you wish, just because a feature set is in the game does not mean everybody has to use it.

Also just because we are in the Nords land dies not mean magic is not a part of the very fabrics of Skyrim, magic comes from the Mundus which is everything the world outside of this one a magical plain, it is not limited in Skyrim. If you want to limit yourself for roleplaying reasons that would be great. It it was in I would create some that did not use it, but only a few as its one of ny favorite features that was ever in this series.

We could have spell creation held in the College of Winterhold which is free from the Nords discriminating views on the arcane. They are free to learn and fine tune their craft as they see fit in the College regardless what the Nords think. Spell creation is a manipulation of the arcane nature of the world and mages have always done it in The Elder Scrolls, I do not see why its not in this game.
