Sooooo....Patch1.4 doesn't fix all the items it claims to?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 6:47 am

PLEASE NOTE: THIS THREAD HAS A MINOR THIEVES GUILD QUEST-RELATED SPOILER.

So I was eagerly anticipating patch 1.4 because I am stuck with the bug where Tonilia will not exchange a piece of the Thieves Guild armor for you. It seems that this prevents you from completing the questline, not to mention you permanently lose your fence in Riften. The list of fixes for patch 1.4 clearly stated this would be fixed, but it is not. Has anyone else experienced this? Am I doing something wrong here? It seems really weird that they would list that fix but then it turns out not to work. Any thoughts or advice?

Fixes new files - pretty sure it doesn't solve problems that already existed in current games.

Hmmmm, well that is really only half a patch then, isn't it? In my experience not many game patches require you to start your game over to benefit from the changes. Very disappointing. Thanks for your feedback.

I read something about creating a new save file in your current game and then waiting a few in-game days to let the changes kick in. Tried that but it did not seem to work, unless I did it wrong. Is there any special trick to creating a new save file in an existing game, or is it just a matter of selecting the "new save" option when saving the game?

Try looking around the Ragged Flagon cistern -- patch 1.4 adds pieces of the guild armor you get from Tonilia; one cuirass, and two of everything else.

Thanks, but I don't really care about the upgraded guild armor. What I really want is for her to get unstuck from the dialogue where she wants to give me the upgraded armor but my only possible response is to say that I don't have any of it right now, even though I actually do. The problem is that she offers no other dialogue options, so I cannot sell to her and I believe that also prevents you from receiving the guild master's armor, so I'm not sure if I am locked out of becoming the guild master.

Yes there is a piece of armour in the back room with all the chests [not the vault] sounds like you are glitched, maybe look in the know bugs for a solution or do the dreaded go to an earlier save. if you have one availiable. I f you are on pc there should be a command to use.

Similar issues revolving around new patches and save games have existed in previous Beth games that used gamebryo, and since this "new" engine uses so many of the same exact assets it is basically gamebryo's younger sister with a lot of makeup. So we can expect similar issues to occur. It seams as though if a bad scripting trigger has already been tripped, and you've saved after hitting it, then it's highly likely you can kiss that character goodbye now matter how many patches we get. Atleast where that scripting error is concerned. Not all bugs are like this, but a lot of quest and dialogue bugs can be expected to suffer until you start a new character.

At least that's what I take from all this. Had a lot of these pop up in New Vegas, and they almost always ended with me needing to start a new character or revert back to a save prior to the bad trigger being hit.

Yeah, that is where I am now. I ended up starting a new character so I can make a few glitched quests work. I love this game, but it's a bit disappointing to think that these patches will not correct an issue you have already run into.

You need to create a new save file for a couple of reasons. It makes the save file smaller, and it cleans out some sludge from the save.

As for the patch, if the game save has data in it that is stopping the quest progression, then no patch is going to fix that. They probably fixed the conditions that put the bad value in the save, so loading a save from before you got the quest will probably let this go forward.
