Blue Palace Brawl

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 5:33 pm

Yeah, well.. this was certainly... unusual.

I was visiting the Blue Palace in Solitude when I decided that I didn't like thane Bryling, but I did like her outfit. Accordingly, I sneak-killed her and took her clothes.

Next thing I know, swords are being drawn and a fight breaks out, but not against me. It was the Solitude Guards versus Jarl Elsif, Falk Firebeard, Bolgeir Bearclaw and Erikur (all of whom are essential NPCs).

After a minute or so, the fight just sort of... stopped and everyone resumed their normal routine. But whenever I stopped sneaking and became visible again, the guards would go hostile on me-- even though according to my "Crime" menu, I hadn't incurred a bounty for the killing of Bryling. But while the guards were hostile to me, the Blue Palace NPCs were not, and they would again fight the guards.

This went on for several minutes until, inevitably, all of the guards lay dead as the essential NPCs had finally gotten the better of them. I hadn't lifted a finger during the fight, and again, I hadn't incurred a bounty.

Perhaps someone could explain what happened here? I understand why Elsif, Firebear etc would fight in my defense given that I was already made a thane by this point they seemed to like me, but why would the guards be hostile against me if my crime went undetected (i.e. no bounty)? It was just those guards within the Blue Palace, by the way. Once I left the scene, the other guards in Solitude didn't pay me any mind.

Ive seen it happen in other cases, if your hidden and someone important dies the guards just let loose on whoever is closest. It's almost like the kill player script starts and then shouts "stop, pretend you didn't see them, quick attack someone so you don't look stupid".

Weird, this hasn't happened to me yet. I'll try it later, it sounds pretty interesting.

How is it not?

It doesn't say anything that would spoil a portion of gameplay. Unless you consider a weird glitch a spoiler.

How is it not?

He mentions NPC names and places which on their own mean nothing, no quest's or quest outcome's that I can see. That you can become a Thane I could see maybe but 99% of us would have figured that out in Whiterun.

If this isn't allowed General is going to become very cryptic;

So I was at [redacted] when who should turn up but [redacted] he/she/it told be about [redacted] So I went to [redacted] where I had to [redacted] a [redacted] luckily I had my [redacted] perk by then and had my [redacted] staff equipped. What do you guys think?

Actually I say we do that for a week just to freak out the late comers.

Maybe it does involve a quest about stealing clothes I'm not sure now.

EDIT: Got moved guess there was and it's spoiled for me :P, not gonna question it.

Kindly point out exactly what you consider to be a spoiler in my original post, please.

@Moderator - It would also help if you explained why you moved this thread. Obviously, you agree that there was spoiler material in my original post. I'm confused as to where that would be. If revealing that it's possible to become a thane of Solitude is actually regarded as a spoiler (which is frankly, stupid), then you've got a lot of threads to move over from general.

*bump*

Yoo-hoo? Moderator?

Let me put this way... If you don't move this thread back into General Discussion, then you're going to set two very bad precedents:

1) That casually mentioning you happen to be a thane of a certain city is a no-no because this is considered to be a "spoiler." So, I guess we're not allowed to mention that Skyrim has a Thieves Guild, and that the player can join this guild if they so desire. Or that there's dragons in the game.

2) That you're apparently going to cow-tow to players who complain of "spoilers" when the "spoiler" isn't readily apparent, and the complainer refuses to reveal precisely what the "spoiler" is. After all, when asked "How is this a spoiler?" Rezar responded with "How is it not?" That's not particularly informative and yet you moved the thread anyway. Nice job.

Spoiler? Huh? What the heck? Is this fight SUPPOSED to happen? I'm having the same issue... and I'm really confused... if you try to talk to any of the NPCs involved in the fight, they don't acknowledge the fight... I think it's a glitch. I don't want to spoil anything, but does anyone really think this event was scripted!? If so... why do you think so?
