I did it with my first character who was a thief and assasin.

but I have a new character and was not planning on MURDERING people.

so I have 23 effing stones.....and if I want the final one, I have to murder someone?


that is kinda stupid.

i know that one of the other stones is stuck in the mages guild questline, but every character starts with a magic spell already learned....you know magic....I showed up to the mages guild and my RP was I was just going along with it to steal them blind.


and since you can't really even start the quest if you don't go to thieves guild, that is kind of an early clue that this is a thief quest.

anyone else annoyed you have to murder someone just to finish a quest to pick up an item?

I've never completed that questline - I started it once but didn't like the toon it was on, so deleted her. Who do you have to kill? I never got that far.

I found out it is a term from mmo, which I don't do, so I NEVER HEARD IT BEFORE.

thank you poetic madness, I was pretty sure a toon meant a character, but now I have polite, straightforward confirmation. you have to kill at least grelod the kind and one other person to get into the DB sanctuary.

Ah, but Grelod deserves it. You don't even get a bounty for killing her, and you make all those kids so happy.
And you don't have to join the DB, you can take the alternate quest to wipe them out, which still gets you into the sanctuary.

My apologies. I have had so many people get antagonistic about my use of the word toon, that I simply thought you were one who had done so before.

I never heard of a toon before. kind of cool term for an character, becuase it is an animated avatar.. I got 3 toons!

yeah, I was not trying to be a dike. though, now that I have heard the term, I have to admit I don't like an MMO import word at first reaction, but I don't really care if someone else uses it. hey, as long as people play RPGs, I don't care if they call their characters bunnies or tacos. I also have 3 tacos, sky!

But all you have to do is kill Grelod, really. After that...you can take down the Dark Brotherhood. I believe that's morally permissable to any character, isn't it?

Yes, in my lexicon. Killing a half-dozen DB members is fine.... and well.... the only reason killing Grelod is fine though, is because you don't get a murder on your record. Is she a complete loss as a caregiver for kids? Yes. But then again.... they're fed, clothed, housed.... so a case could be made that no matter she's a you-know-what, the kids WILL get out of there and be fine on their own.... more or less.... /grumbles at ambivalence - but it's mostly that we really shouldn't push RL mores on a game....

Now.... were I able to rp one of those kids.... Yep. Grelod would be trying to explain to her god why she should NOT spend eternity pushing a rock up the Throat of the World - through lava.
