Help me with a Master playthrough

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 8:55 pm

I Recently started a Master playthrough with a sword n board character using conjuration and smithing (not really high)

The difficulty was awesome,i wondered how the hell had i been playing at adept before.

The Atronachs were lifesavers,if i was going up against a crowd i'd summon them immediately, they also received all aggro and me and Lydia were safe.

against tougher encounters the shield was extremely helpful (shield of Ysgramor too!) bash, slash twice, repeat,it was nice being able to interrupt an enemys killing blow and make a run for it.

I did the main quest and loved it,since i was play at Master i had to down the difficulty vs the first fight with Alduin because it was impossible, this char had no ranged attacks and no magic, plus i didn't have Lydia and i wanted to do this fight by myself,no summons.

In the last fight i did play on Master and it was piss easy.

Now i'm starting a new character,Sneaky archer with duel wield, looking to use a bow untill close range, and generally use paralysis potions from afar to make fights easier.

i need major help,it's impossible not to lose buckets of health while trying to inflict mediocre damage, power attacks are very nice but what about when i encounter a Draugr or bandit with a 2h wep?roll over and die?

Anyways,i loved Master from the first moment,Skulldafn turned Skyrim into a horror game, slowly creeping up,ready to summon atronaches whenever i hear the slightest sound.

Yeah, those 2handers can take you out pretty fast, as a dual wielder. Just try to move around and kite them, timing your power attacks. Pretty much everything is about the power attacks, as a dual wielder. Later on, more stam and the light armor perk that regens stam will help. Also, make vegetable soup or eat homecooked meals, for the tougher fights.

Poison them, Alchemy is just as useful as Enchanting.

Peg them with the bow until they get close, use your bow to bash them in the face when they attack to give you time to switch weapons. With dual wield timing has to be perfect in order for you to get in, slash a couple times and get out fast enough to avoid their attacks. Pay attention to their movement as the enemy has several tells when they are about to attack, especially 2 handers. It takes practice but you'll be dropping those bad guys like a bad habit in no time.

For a sneaky archer on Master you want/need a really powerful bow, because the idea is to drop them before they can reach you. To that end you need to upgrade that pea-shooter to a cannon, through use of Smithing and Alchemy (Enchanting optional), and carry Fortify Marksman potions for when you really need a damage boost. Upgrade your blades, too, so that if they do get close (and occasionally they will) you can take them down fairly quickly.

That said, 2H-users will hurt like hell unless/until you get your armor rating close to (or even at) the cap, due to the high damage of the weapons being multiplied by the difficulty scalar. If you're not going to try to cap it, then I recommend making and carrying Fortify Health potions so that you at least have a bigger HP reserve with which to soak a couple of hits.

If all else fails, you can always use the 'Sir Robin' fighting style; yeah, it can hurt to bail on a fight, but it will hurt a lot less than getting your head split and will give you the opportunity to go back when better prepared. In fact, at the low levels it will be nigh-mandatory due to poor output and armor rating on your part, although in your case you can at least feed them a steady diet of Atronachs to slow them down (which is about all they will do until you get the buff perks for them).

Thank you for the advice everyone.

I intend to keep this character underpowered,no crafting skills whatsoever,no magic,no block and still debating on light or heavy armour.

So far i'm lvl 7-8 with 43 archery and into the TG,first time i ever joined them,if you ignore the morals it's actually the funnest questline!

I use archery and dual wield, serving me quite nice, not really getting criticals because i always get spotted, blame marcurio for that.

Archery so far hasn't done anything special but the perks will be useful,i intend on getting the gauldur blackbow,at my archery lvl it's gonna do triple the damage of my current imperial bow.

I need tips on arrows, where to multiply them, where are the practicing guards, etc.

so far it's tough but doable, the main reason i don't lvl alchemy is because i don't want my char to be over 30-35,i always liked it low.

Enchanting i won't lvl,too overpowered and i started to hate the skill after getting it 100 twice.

Smithing is actually very essential since my sword n board char would be dead meat without it,i imght increase it because light armour won't do a thing wihtout buffnig.

Alchemy is very useful but the potions you can make are straight up overpowered.

3x sneak perk for archers makes the most sense. Try to get them with arrows before they see you. I play this way and it works great and is fun. When I start to feel overpowered I just drop down a level in bows. The one-handed stuff is glitched for daggers, they don't level damage, I guess. so maybe using swords will work for you.
