Ultimate safe storage!

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 9:43 am

Correct me if I'm wrong...

I'm trying to get organized. I'm carrying a bunch of weapons that I want to improve and either keep or sell - not sure yet. I've got ore and ingots stashed on the ground at Warmaiden's, in my room at the College, on my follower and in my pockets; and I'm trying to figure out how to get all my 'housekeeping' done with a minimum of effort.

I'm thinking of selling everything I want to keep to the Khajit caravan in Dawnstar, which will then go into the hidden treasure chest. I can leave it there forever and then when I have time, get all my gear, improve it at the Smithy... etc.

Is this a great idea, or a brilliant idea???

Not sure, since I believe the hidden Dawnstar chest resets together with the inventory of Khajiit caravans. If I were you I'd try it with some worthless items first, just to see if it resets after 48 hours, like most merchants do.

IS the respawn time only 48 hours ?? I thought it was closer to 30 days now (haven't really checked but I thought they lengthened it from what it was in OB.

I'm pretty sure the respawn time for merchants is just 48 hours.
I'm not sure if there is any safe storage except at your house.

I wouldn't trust a merchant container, for sure.
And I wouldn't describe a single container as "unlimited" because... technically it is, and it ain't. Things just start to slow down A LOT once you have x amount already in it.

Respawn time for dungeons et cetera is 30 days, for shop owners it's 48 hours.

There are some, like a sidetable in the Alchemist's Shack. If you Google ''Skyrim safe storage'' or something you should be able to find it.

I'm going to test it... but in 'reality', no one is buying anything from that caravan except me. And if I remember correctly, I have always seen everything I've ever sold to a vendor still in their inventory when I go back to them later in the game....

ppl buy stuff from the caravans we just don't see it. But each time I go back to any vender, caravans and my spouse included, there are a few changes to the inventory.

I have tested out the secret chest and it respawns much sooner than 30 days. 48 hours might very well be correct.

There is a broken down shack on the plains of white run, just down the road past the western watchtower. There is a working bed and a chest hidden under the floorboard. I've had a single torch in that chest for about 50 game days now. So I'm pretty sure its safe. Plus, when you fast travel to the western watchtower, no more load screens because the chest is "outside" inside the broken down house.

Well thanks for the info. I'll have to seek that place out.

I thought I had the perfect plan.... I suppose the only way to truly get organized is to buy a house in the city. ONE spot where I can store, trade, and smith... *sigh*

The barrels outside Warmaidens in Whiterun seem to be safe (least in my experience) I've had stuff in all 3 of them for over 10 days (I make a circuit to all the hold capitals to buy alchemy ingredients twice and it takes 10 days for 2 circuits) I know I've been away longer than 10 days and everything was still there, but as always you're better off testing it out yourself.

I do know that the Wars in Skyrim mod does reset these barrels though so they aren't safe with that mod enabled.

From that link I just posted:
"The two barrells outside Warmaiden's in Whiterun appear to be safe (haven't reset in over xx hours of play)"
They reset after 14 days. For more information when containers reset and how to test them see discussion section.
