Probably been asked before but i still like to know

Hi peeps,

I would like to know if its viable to be a mage who only wears his or her robes and circlet and no armor besides boots and gloves? I know i loose considerable armor, but hey those fur armors are just smelly :)

I like to know why to use armor or robes and if there is a good thread on it a link towards that.

Thanks,

G

Depends on how fast you are, how many heal spells/potions you're willing to cast/use and how quickly you can dispatch enemies. Especially if you haven't been putting points into your health.

you can be all unarmoured once you get the 'mage armour' perks, before that i would have at least armoured boots and gauntlets, with a spell like oakflesh. The benefit to wearing robes is the magicka help, and the speed you get from being less encumbered. I rolled a mage for the first time ever this week, and im having a blast!

Ckeck out this thread, i got some really good advice from the community

I have an elven archer who has never worn anything except street clothes once the opening sequence was over. So I imagine its possible with mages also.

Well except unfortunately this is not true. A mage in robes moves no faster than an daedric-armor-knight with 200 lbs of loot.
I wish it worked differently

I'm unarmored without the Mage Armor perk, and I rarely if ever even use those Alteration spells as armor. I run if I have to. :P The Destruction perk Impact makes opponents stagger if being dual-shot, and they can't get close to me at all. I heal with healing spells or potions if have to.

I am currently not wearing heavy armor nor light. I am a battle mage.

All mages should focus on the Alteration as a top priority
Invest in Oakflesh spell first then you can work yourself up to Stoneflesh, which is the apprentice level. For expert you use Ebonyflesh, which I highly recommend. Use your perks too, which can be highly useful.
