as the title says I can't seem to sell my stolen stuff... who is the fence in this game or should I just make a pile in a random location and see how big I can make it?

You need to be a member of the Thieves Guild and do their quests to get the fences. Once you complete everything in the Thieves Guild questlines you will have 7 fences who will buy stolen stuff. 6 of them will carry up to 4000 gold.

You could put it in a pile and wait until you can get the perk in speech that lets you sell stolen goods (you need 90 speech though)
