Marcurio: Is this a Bug?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 9:43 pm

I'm not sure if this is a spoiler, but I'll post it here just in case.

Marcurio has a lot of unique, unprompted comments while he's your follower in dungeons/adventuring etc. I like how he mentions Yagrum Bagarn and what it must feel like to be the last member of your race when in Dwemer ruins, and how he speculates on if it would be wise to stop and build a fire (because he is cold). In short he has lots of little comments which make him my favorite follower.

However, I have realized that after marrying him all of these unprompted bits of audio are missing, although his responses to menu options remain the same after marriage.

Am I experiencing a bug, or is this the same for everyone?

Any confirmations from someone else married to him that he is still making unique comments in dungeons would be appreciated. If it's broken maybe it could be fixed, but if it's meant to be this way then bleh.

Oh, yes; I glimpsed this in the Creation Kit but thought nothing of it. To say those lines, he has to be in the CurrentHireling faction, but if he's married, he's removed from the PotentialHireling faction so you don't have to pay him if you want him to follow you. Then when you have him follow you, he never gets added to the CurrentHireling faction.

Thanks for this (sad) info. :(
I will mess with him to see if I can change his faction (have quested too far to go back to an unmarried save). I don't suppose there is a mod to add all of his dialogue to his married self? I suspect messing with the console factions will probably break him. :(

Edit: Initially this fixed him with what seems to be only minor conflicts, thanks. :) I am back to watching my head and being careful not to get lost. :P

For anyone else wanting to try this on PC, I used PrinceShroob's 'CurrentHireling' faction suggestion and added it via console by targeting Marcurio and typing:

addtofaction 000bd738 2

His response when you initiate dialogue with him is off, and he says one of his 2 "Yes, my love..." instead of his normal types of responses like "Still here" and "I've got your back", because I think these opening dialogues are 2 different sets depending on if you are married or not. I don't intend to send him home, but imagine dismissing him from following will probably cause problems.
