your twohander spec

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 2:52 am

so probably smtihing, enchanting, twohanded, heavy(or light) armor, blocking...?

or is there something worthwhile in the other trees?

i feel like most spell schools have been narrowed to the point where they dont really lend a hand to hybrid specs.

no point in speccing destruction, conjuration? it would just be a filthy mess to try and fight in all that confusion, illusion seems downright boring cmopared to what you can do with it in diff games, resto is a strict no no for me, and alteration...might be nice? i like the telekineses.

so what are your twohander specs and why.

Stick with heavy armor since you can smith and improve weapons on that side of the smithing tree. Heavy armor weapons are better.

Destruction is pointless since the damage from a two hander is much more at later levels, plus you won't have a free hand to cast anyway.

I'm not doing any enchanting. I feel the character becomes a bit overpowered if you use both smithing and enchanting.

Most of the 2H tree, a couple of Heavy Armor perks, as well as some 1H, Smithing and Block.

This character doesn't use archery, sneaking, lockpicking, enchanting, alchemy, magic spells, etc., not even healing spells.

In previous TES games, I usually played a mage or some sort of mage hybrid character. Having a lot of fun with more specialized characters in Skyrim. In fact it's the first time I ever played a pure warrior. Played a thief archer character the first time and I will probably play a pure mage next who doesn't use any armor or weapons. Perhaps at some point I will try a battlemage hybrid character.

If you're going to enchant, a few points in destruction to get augmented fire is worthwhile since that will add to any fire damage you put on your 2H. Also, getting conjuration to 25 for a flame atronach is very nice for early game survival.

Yes it's very easy to just keep making iron daggers and power level your smithing.

That kind of ruins the fun for me, so I'm only using smithing to make actual weapons or armor that my character or follower will use. As a result, my smithing skill levels very slowly.

I tried two Handed and Heavy Armor on the last character and found it over powered even with crap gear at a low level of 8 to 10. but yeah just do hundreds of iron daggers. Then enchant them with absorb health and sell them. Smithing points/enchanting points and gold what more could anyone want...lol

I've gotten my Smithing to around 90 or so and it certainly hasn't resulted in god-like armor. Very good armor, yes; nigh-indestructible armor (Spoon!) - no.

What is your current character level?

I'm at level 22 and my Smithing skill is in the high 30s. I'm guessing it's probably only "god-like" if you power level your Smithing when you are still low level.

There is some sort of maximum armor rating cap, so even if you have an insanely powerful armor made when you reach 100 Smithing, while simultaneously wearing additional necklace, clothing, rings and boots that all boost Smithing and drinking Smithing potion, I imagine any additional armor rating in excess of the cap is wasted, particularly when you are a level 50 character, for example, and some of the dungeon areas are spawning much tougher bosses.

yea i found 2 handers to be super over powered, you can pretty much smash your was through people's block and take a good chunk off their health. pretty good reach of em too, especially against daggers and swords, you can keep em at bay. only trouble was spell casters......

I tried completing Bleak Falls Barrow on Master difficulty as a level 1 pure thief, pure warrior and pure mage with no followers.

The 2-handed warrior had the most difficulty because he has no ranged attacks. I died and reloaded dozens of times. Died frequently with the others as well, but it was most challenging as a warrior.

Currently I have also invested a bit into 1-handed. I play most of the time with 2H weapons, but when fighting powerful spell casters like Dragon Priests, I started using the tactic of Slow Time, get a few 2-handed blows in, then switch to using shield with magic resist and a 1-handed sword. It's a bit easier to interrupt their spells by shield bashing spell casters.

Been using something like this on my nord warrior. http://skyrimcalculator.com/#34041 Workin alright for me, leaves room for extra areas like maybe sword and board if you wanted or archery maybe.

Edit: OR Conjuration. Really think I'm actually gonna go and try this now, will help deal with casters/archers like a tank and spank kind of mentality. ^^

Trying it at level one on any difficulty is pretty insane if you're a pure 2H warrior, as the archers have elevation advantage and will shred you as you climb the stairs. I always wait until I have a decent weapon and armor, but then I don't mind heavily leveling Smithing early on via upgrading everything I loot.

I'm mapping out a 2H warrior right now, in fact, and she (going to be a female Argonian) will be something like this: Archery, 2H, Heavy Armor, Restoration, Alteration, Smithing, Enchanting, Alchemy.

I'd leave off the last two, but I play Dead-is-Dead and need the additional buffs. Restoration is semi-optional, but I have a feeling I'm going to need it, and Archery will be a secondary combat skill used when I can't reach, or do not wish to melee, an opponent.

2H - you should decide early what weapon you want. I liked swords, so I put points in the sword-based 2H skills. I also recommend decapitation. It's just satisfying when you behead someone who's being a pain.

If you want a spell school, I'd consider alteration for the magic resistance, especially if you're not taking enchanting. Restoration is fine for healing, but it's easy to take alchemy instead. It's a good source of income.

If you take enchanting and smithing, you will make gear far better than anything you can find on your own. This means you'll lose that joyous moment when you find better gear than you currently have. If you decide to just go with one, I recommend enchanting.

I would also consider archery. Dragon fights svck if you don't have a long-ranged attack.

I think I am going to make a two handed assasin who uses a summoned weapon (I think the two handed version is a hammer but can't remember). Heavy armor, Illusion (just for muffle), Restoration, Alchemy (for poisons), Aleration (just cause it is cool), and conjuration for my weapon.
