Skyrim is great...

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 10:51 am

Skyrim is my first Elder Scrolls game and I love it. I'm about 68 hours in with an Argonian shield and sword character. I love the game and sure it has it's glitches but I mean come on guys. Why hate on a game that you obviously enjoy. Sure Bethesda could fix some things, but it doesn't break the game for me.

I think the reason for all the hate in these forums is that people have legitimate complaints and they love TES, which is why they want the series to improve. If people didn't love TES, then these forums would be empty, and I personally find that prospect much more frightening than a forum full of whining and ranting. At least some of the whining and ranting has a point.

And besides, this isn't as bad as some of the other game forums I've been on. Ever play League of Legends? I'll give you a taste of the forums:

"OMG NEW CHAMP VOLIBEAR TOO OP! NERF NOW!"
"DODGE IS TOO OP! JAX GETTING REWORK AND DODGE GETTING REMOVED!"
"Y U SO BAD BRO? L2P"

These forums are meant to dicuss the general content in Skyrim, including it's shortcomings and imperfections, What I don't understant is why people will defend Bethesda to death even when Beth has made a mistake, some sick fanboyism going in these forums.

It's better than Oblivion that's for sure.

Than again that's no real challenge.

As I said earlier, I like that people criticize this game. It makes the game better, because now Bethesda can respond to their fan-base rather than stumbling blindly onward and possibly angering a lot of people.

Because people have legit complaints and there are some problems with Skyrim. People have to accept that some people have different opinions and not just say they're "trolling" because somebody is complaining about Skyrim or defending Skyrim. Of course some complaints are more vaild then others.

 THIS  You hit the nail on the head there....lol

I do not mind if people have a real issue with the game. It is the whinners and QQs that bug the crap out of me over non sense just to drone on and on to get attention from someone here.

Considering Oblivion have better and longer questlines and a larger world I don't really see what you get that from.
Also, the perk system is bad.

Levelling in Oblivion was total garbage, and the layout and randomized landscaping was atrocious. Whether vanilla Skyrim is better than vanilla Oblivion is no question: it is.

Now, comparing Skyrim to Morrowind is a fair trade: Skyrim has superior graphics and the combat is much better, but Morrowind has better quest-lines, a better lore/story environment, and more NPC variation (mainly due to text-script rather than voices).

Morrowind is no better than Oblivion. It's extremely easy to get op and the quests aren't any better than in Oblivion. The only better thing in Morrowind is the lore.
If it wasn't for Skyrim's graphics and combat it would be a terrible game.

See, if this was a run-of-the-mill RPG and not a TES game, people would only care about the part I bolded. That's why I find it so appealing that people criticize Skyrim - because it could be so much more.

Regardless, I just prefer Morrowind because... I dunno Oblivion just struck a wrong chord with me. Maybe I'm being too nostalgic, but I distinctly remember Morrowind was much more fun immersion-wise than Oblivion. Maybe because Oblivion's constant voice repetition broke my immersion, just like Skyrim's.

Guild wise sure

and a larger world

How the [censored] do people think this? They are the same damn size. Besides, Morrowind was smaller than Oblivion and was worth exploring, like Skyrim is. This isn't a pro.

Agreed on the perk system.

I do agree with that, and I also think that more games should do it the old way and stick to text for 99% and only use voice acting for the important parts. There is so much more content in a game with text.
I'm probably also nostalgic, I played Oblivion before Morrowind and for some reason the first TES game you play is usually the one you like the best, not saying it's always so, but most if the time.

Of course some complaints are more vaild then others.

I think that's the tricky part.
The line between a valid point and a non-valid point is different for everyone.

I for one would need a SERIOUS problem for a valid complaint

For some others, it goes as far as "I don't like this character. Beth you failed to make me like him..."

I very much enjoy this game too. It is such an amazingly detailed world.

Why turn this into a Syrim vs Oblivion thread?? There are many things in Oblivion better than Skyrim. But both are great games.

The "layout and randomized landscaping" in Oblivion is an absolute and demonstrable falsehood. But apparently many who want to hate Oblivion will not see all the amazingly detailed and unique items, dungeons and landscapes. It is obviously not "randomized" or "automatically generated" - that is just false.

Leveling in unmodded Oblivion was not so good. But then again in Skyrim you still have bandits in glass armor, and complaints about balance. And in Morrowind, the game is unchallenging after a high enough level (like level 40 or so).

So much this. There are so many people bashing Oblivion with all kinds of false spiteful comments. I often wonder if they even played the game or just followed the trend that is to hate Oblivion.

I agree that the game a reat. It's not perfect by any means and many of the complains have a good reason behind them, but it is still a great game.

Perhaps saying it was randomized was a false statement on my part, but it still stands (for me at least) that Oblivion's landscape was much more bland than Morrowind or Skyrim. Oblivion wasn't bad - I'm not implying that. It's just not as good as Skyrim, in my opinion, and you can't really compare the two without saying Skyrim is the overall better package. Morrowind was, for me, the defining TES standard, and Skyrim can compare to it. Oblivion disappointed me, but I still sank hours into it - after I modded it, of course. If you mod the leveling system, Oblivion can be quite a good game.

I fully agree that the landscape is pretty bland and it feels the same most of the time, but it's still not randomly generated. Skyrim's landscape is superior, I'm not arguing on that
Yeah, I've used so many mods with Oblivion I've completely lost count, and I suspect it will be the same with Skyrim in a year or two.
