Can i find any more challenge?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 11:37 pm

So i am 102 hours in with my two handed nord and playing on expert. I am level 53 and have maxed out two handed skill and armor rating and everything is pretty easy now. I would like to know if there is anywhere out there where i can go to find a good challenge at this level. And please don't tell me to just raise the difficulty because that just feels like im lowering the skills i worked hard to raise.

Raise the difficulty, you've reached the end. There are no new enemies, and all enemies stop leveling at 50.

Why not try playing with a chosen armor and weapon chosen purely for aesthetics/roleplaying purposes? For example, choosing Imperial/Stormcloak armor depending on your preferred faction and only using weapons that you could realistically smith (since you use two-handed, how about iron or steel weapons and possibly Orc weapons - no Dwemer since they're supposed to be master smiths and their smithing tech is supposed to be lost).

Well the smithing bonuses as well as enchanting break immersion for me. I only improve items that already have crap base-stats to begin with (for example, I improved my Imperial armor to legendary so I could keep it scaled to higher levels, and still keep the roleplaying aspect) and I never enchant unless my character is built specifically as an enchanter + mage.

If you're not going to raise the difficulty, then wait for DLC or mods to add more challenge.

This. I'm doing it right now. I feel too powerful with 100 in light armor, even on master, so I've changed to heavy armor, it's really a challenge with the low armor rating, and I'm at such a high level that it takes a lot of skill increases to level up.

Well, it's a role playing game and isn't about "challenge" per se, but rather about creating a character and living their story. You are beyond the soft cap at 50, although if you keep going the enemies will begin to consist of more and more of the higher level sort. But Beth's games are about exploration, not challenge, so it may be that you want something that their games are not designed to give.

I would suggest playing the game by making choices that fit your character concept rather than focusing on the game mechanics. For example, if your character concept is not interested in being a smith, then do not smith anything as doing so doesn't fit the character and is not something the character would actually do. Perhaps your character feels that any real combat is only to be accomplished without any assistance (i.e., no armor, no enchantments on anything, etc.) You create the character and live the experience, so you make these choices.

Bethesda has the unfortunate characteristic of being too soft on its players.

Consider the leveling system. The point of a level system is to establish that certain creatures are far more fearsome and dangerous than others. This was not only a guide for DMs in the early days, but it also helped players establish goals. "One day I'll hit level 10 and fight a dragon!" etc. When the content levels with you, that really makes leveling useless. The only thing you really get are new ways to kill creatures, you're already powerful enough to defeat.

There are a few set levels for monsters in Skyrim, but there aren't a lot of top-tier monsters that remain challenging.

Here are a few build ideas to help you make new, challenging characters...

Captain America - You can use no weapon beyond punching and a shield. You can have companions and use non-destructive magic.

Emperor Palpatine - Stick with powers that are consistent with the dark side of the force like shock and telekinesis. Illusion (mind control) would be fine, etc.

Religious - You can own no property or pursue wealth. You must let your deity of choice provide for you. That means no buying or selling. You can only use items you find in the wild (including spells and potions). No tradeskills. Stick with a moral code.

Crazy naked guy with a knife. - Dagger. No clothes. No magic. Mute (No shouts).

Try Dead is Dead or another variant.
