Combining -flesh spells and Mage Armour

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:08 am

Through Mage Armour you can make spells like Oakflesh and Ebonyflesh up to three times as effective, but according to the description, you need to wear robes in order to get the bonus. Now on my new character I'm planning on using robes, but do I also need to wear accompanying hoods in order to get the bonus? And can I just wear any kind of boots and gloves and still make Mage Armour work?

You just have to wear clothing of any type instead of armor.

You could go nvde and still achieve the bonus. As long as everything you wear equates to 0 armor rating, you're fine.

When you talk about the 0 armor rating, is that only for the 'body'-armor part (like Leather Armor, or Glass Armor, or Nightingale Armor), or do my boots, helmet and gloves have to add up to 0 too?

Anyways, thanks for both answers so far :)

All apparel items that you equip (including dragon priest masks), have to have a zero armor rating to get the Mage Armor bonuses. However, you can equip a shield and still get the bonus.

Anything thats considered armour will negate the effect but there are a few items like the Diadem of the Savant that have an Armour rating but aren't considered armour. Its ok to wear those.

Alright, thanks everyone. I guess I'll just go with robes, a Dragon Priest mask and glass gauntlets and boots or something, and use a flesh-spell to make up for the lack of body armour. I think that will about even out, and I don't really want to forgo other items because of possible enchantments on them.

As soon as you wear anything that is armour, ie mask and or guantlet, the bonus no longer applies. You have to be in a set with everything you put on having no armour rating whatsoever before the bonuses apply.

Yeah, I realized that now, but I think I will still be using equipment with armour rating, like a Dragon Priest mask. That should just about make up for the loss of armour because I probably won't be investing in Mage Armour on my character. I will use the flesh-spells to make up for a lack of body-armour, so I can still use my Arch Mage Robes without being at a real disadvantage.
