Thank you Bethesda for focusing on a good single player game

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 11:15 pm

I am sick and tired of every game having to have a multiplayer

A game company has limited resources to create a game - money and time

To create a multiplayer and a single player you are splitting those resources

I really hope that Bioware takes a hard look at 10 million shipped and stop putting multiplayer in every game they make

I agree!
Hopefully Bethesda keeps their word and keep TES as single-player only forever.

I agree.

Multiplayer is fun, but IMO it shouldn't be the main focus of the game.

Multiplayer is not evil. It's a great thing.

But it doesn't belong in the Elder Scrolls, and I think Bethesda - for all their faults, and there are many - understands this. Todd, for all the mysterious things he said, has always made it clear that multiplayer will never be in the Elder Scrolls. It's simply not worth sacrificing the addicting and fun singleplayer to create half-assed multiplayer (like Bioware has done).

Absolutely, but a potential MMO by Zenimax Online may ruin the series forever.

If Elder Scrolls Online becomes an major hit, how would Bethesda see that? Will it change how they do the singleplayer games?

They never said no multiplayer...

Todd Howard said in an interview that they felt that multiplayer was not going to work in the Elder Scrolls series of games, so they'd be leaving it out of the series.

Shouldn't the single player threads be shoveled off to a single unused spot like the multiplayer/co-op discussion?

I agree, TES should NEVER be multiplayer.

I have actually made a point of this after playing multiplayer games since 2005 ((unless you count forum role play stories such as what Gaia online used to be))

::Directed at a guy who is super exited that someone on UESP made a multiplayer mod::

Oh great so you want to share all of your spoils with everyone.
You want to be attacked by other people who get their giggles by ruining others gameplay.
You want to be finished with Skyrim within a year usually around 6 months because of the people make your experience crappy.
You want to lag more on account of having other people load into the game you're sharing with them.
You want to play on much lower graphics considering Skyrim is already so big.

Online MMO's ruin games, people ruin games. Now you're going to make room for Chinese Gold Bots and Slave Labor because you are incredibly lazy to farm your own and most likely will ruin your credit score by given your information out to the gold sites and even though you're going to get what you pay for, in the end it will backfire because they will use that information to hack into your account and take back not only what you bought from them but also what you somehow earned and once the Game Moderators felt you went past your usefulness will ban you but you will return with a different IP address before your punishment is up I'm sure.

Yes Multiplayer there is a reason I stopped with them. Heck I only log on to my Guild Wars account to get the hats and that's it.

You my friend love drama over your own personal gaming experience should you choose to go multiplayer. But if you're a male and you do Marijuana and you think of women as bed slaves and should be nvde all the time then you will find acceptance in 90% of groups you will meet.

That's scary when you consider how much of what he's said about Skyrim over the last year or so didn't come to fruition. (New engine; different PC UI, much better PC graphics than console; Damage an area's economy; DX11 support; etc.)

And yes, it should stay as a single player game.

I think it would be nice, but it wouldnt work for TES. These games are ment for solo play or else it destroys the experience and the game/world they are trying to create. It just wouldnt fit the story or lore for people to be able to pop in and out of your game. Plus, this can be done in mods, which it has and is being done now for Skyrim. So it's unnessacary.

Multiplayer games are fine, but as the op suggests, not every game SHOULD be multiplayer. Watching a movie with someone can be fun, but do you want someone reading a book with you over your shoulder? There are many ways to fantacize, and I'm glad Bethesda is maintaining a form that seems increasingly neglected in the era of Facebook Big Brother, where there's something wrong with you if you don't want to share every dimension of your daily experiences.

Did you know Facebook is considering selling themselves to China. China only likes what China has complete control over. If China does get complete control over Facebook imagine what they would do with all that narcissitic information of people which could very well hack and get their credit/debit cards. I had to do a report on it for class.

Yes, I love that ES games are single player. There are plenty of multiplayer games out there but I prefer the more personal and immersive experience that single player games provide.

Of course. Teamwork warrants distribution of reward. You of course, have to not be self centered for this to work.

You want to be attacked by other people who get their giggles by ruining others gameplay.

In multiplayer, sometimes, yes. I'd rather run into a periodic challenge than drop a slider a notch to get to an objective. In Co-op, I don't have to worry about that.

You want to be finished with Skyrim within a year usually around 6 months because of the people make your experience crappy.

Last I looked theres still multiplayer games in service since 1997. Co-op games (ie; NWN/NWN2) are still popular, and enjoy a strong community of designers and players after a decade.

You want to lag more on account of having other people load into the game you're sharing with them.

Never seen this. However, I replace my gaming (well, and my work rigs too) rigs every year. More to that issue than any game company can fix for you.

You want to play on much lower graphics considering Skyrim is already so big.

See above.

Starting to see the real underlying issues here.

Yes Multiplayer there is a reason I stopped with them. Heck I only log on to my Guild Wars account to get the hats and that's it.

Theres nothing wrong with hooch. Most of the nvde bed slaves sitting next to me seem to agree too, and I seriously doubt any of them will miss their AM appointments at the movie studio or photographer's set. (Checking) Yeah, they all agree, For as silly as that sounds, it's on the same scale as what you said just different circumstances. Dont hate for the wrong reasons dear.

The CIA monitors facebook?! Why is that the funniest thing I have heard all day? I can believe it but still.

And @ Ancient Wolf: So you enjoy practicing polygmamy as well as secretly practicing Bigamy? Plus you're a guy who smokes pot and thats why you get accepted so easily, falling into my point. Still I give you props for your Johnny Depp cartoon character of his portrayel of the most awesome pirate known.

Yeah TES and Multi-player wouldn't work I don't think, the only way I could see it being used is in a Oblivion styled Arena where players could Battle out tournaments to the end with one being crowned champion and getting some gold as a reward.

So many games seem half-arsed because when they split their time into SP and MP the SP suffers enormously and as a result too much emphasis is put on the MP often making that fall down too! I am happy for the TES series to stay SP.
