Why buying a house?

...and to do alchemy and enchanting in private.
That sounds so unseemly.

About the space: do the containers never run out of it? I have quite literally s**tloads of stuff in them, and they never seem to run out of space.
I stored unnatural amounts of clothes and weapons in Fallout 3 and in Skyrim and I think capacity is unlimited. That being said, I do experience lag when they get very full - minor lag when adding/removing things. :P

It's more for Rp reasons than anything else. Maybe you decide you like a city and want property there (Solitude for me). It's just something to spend money on. Also, be warned, houses are pretty crap until you spend money on them, which pretty much doubles the price of the house. If you just want a place to sleep, inns do fine, as well as guild head quarters.

Are you kidding, Stormcloaks are a helluva lot better, but I hate Windhelm. I know for rp reasons, I shouldn't even feel safe inside solitude, but, whatever

:o ...and I thought enchanting Thalmor Gloves for Alchemy was bad. :P

FWIW, when I get lazy and use the Enchanting Table in Dragonsreach I keep expecting the Court Wizard to say, "Hey, what are you making over there?".

There are pretty much only 2 reasons to get a house.
1) There is so many cool items in this game that you really need somewhere to store them all.
2) Your followers that you get as Thane from each city will stay in your home when you're not using them.

Yep, pretty much just for storage of my stuff . . . including Muiri.

Completely depends on my character. With my first high-level character, a thief/assassin, I actually became the Arch-Mage accidentally since the College questline was so short. I was like, "already, wtf, I just thought of doing a little bit?". With that character, I roleplayed that I left the College unseen at one point never to return, and wrote Tolfdir a letter explaining that my magical talent nor passion aren't of Arch-Mages, and put him on charge.

Can you do that?

I'm a he, and I actually really wrote it. Requires pen and paper or a computer with a word processing program. Used the latter.

How is he annoying? Though I do have to say that any time I use the appurtenances (mostly forges and enchanting tables) in various "public" places I'm always thinking the "owner" of same is rolling her eyes etc....

Are you cheap? Buy a house to store your loot and sleep.

It's like asking why buy a sword.

Eh, dump some stuff in a cabin or something. Plenty of cabins in the woods.

Sure you can. There's the Alchemist's Shack. And the Arch-Mage's Quarters. Various other places. And if on pc, LOTS of free player-house mods.

Yeah, but Bethesda won't 'guarantee' your stuff will stay safe in a non-house container...and I can't even get the Well Rested perk from the Arch-Mages Quarters. <_<

He always starts talking about politics or that he dislikes politics when I stand at the enchanter. Like I was looking for a chat... And his accent... I find him very annoying. I would rather walk into Belethor's helping hand again "I work for Belethor at the General Goods store! ..."

I've read that the Arch Mage's Quarters aren't all that secure. Sure, you had to jump through flaming hogsheads just to get the key, but everyone else there has it, too. I'm always finding Nirya on the stairs to the quarters. Apparently the other mages use the place for their own uses. Having said that, I tossed the staves from the end quests into a footlocker and they're still there.

I like Breezehome for smithing, plus the central location. Apart from that, though, it's rather primitive and limited in scope. I'm tinkering with remodeling it with the CK. Actually, I'm using Uthgerd's house because, though smaller, it's more "up market" lol.

Put too much into a container and it becomes laggy. I'm thinking of shelves with small sacks arranged on them, each with a category, like "small sack of soul gems," or "small sack of ingredients A-K."

Oh, and your manniquiins move around sometimes.... on their own. Spooky.
Honeyside, right? Those guys get around. Scares the bejeebus out of me sometimes. Found one at the enchanting table the other day.

I put a gate on the outside so the bear can't get back in and also a forge on the outside. I can fast travel to the shack and find everything that I need within a few seconds.

LOL, that bear is going to be so mad... You'll probably kill him and find a lock pick on him.

Yeah, I've seen all manner of NPCs go into the door. WTF?
I put the Staff of Magnus on the long, narrow shelf...I'll see what happens. :P

I actually saw mine take a few steps once - that really freaked me out. Yes, steps...they weren't sliding across the floor.

Ah. I never hear the voices.... I really dislike VA in games so I just turn it all off first thing. And unless I really need to talk to an NPC, I don't pay any attention to the words.... So I'm very disconnected from that sort of issue.
