A Use for Runes, besides as mines.

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 4:06 am

Don't know if this has been mentioned before. Search was no use as usual. I accidentally found another use for runes the other day. I had used Detect Dead and could tell there was a deathlord in a standing sarcophogus (helm horns a give away). To prepare for him I cast fire rune. I wanted to cast it in front of him, but it cast on the sarcophogus. It immediately blew up and he tumbled out. Made short work of him after that as he had to run down a hall to get us. Since then I use the runes to spring them and not waste a Fus like I use to. I hope this helps someone else.

Yup, i use runes for this all the time. It is especially useful before boss fights. You can de-louse all their helpers before activating the boss trigger.

I've done that to with dragon priest crypts. If you're real sneaky you can get up right to it and throw a rune down there to trigger it.

It's indeed been mentioned before, but a reminder is always welcome for such hints :D ('cause I did forget :( )

Yeah.

It's a very good way to get a preemptive strike on powerful undead. Plus after the Rune goes off, you can pelt them with other stuff as they begin their long, slow crawl out of their sarcophagi.

If you have silent caster perk, if you get found just place it where you were and run!

Runes can also trigger Dwemer machines hiding in floor / wall pipes, I think.

I know about Runes triggering undead, but I never really abuse it. Feels like cheating, and doesn't really make sense (how does a run on top of the coffin hit them inside and trigger them to come out?).

You can also put them on doors, and when they are opened that sets the ruin off,

I think this works for pretty much all the Destruction spells. For "Proving Honor" (Dustman's Cairn) at the very end, I just did a lightning bolt on each sarcophogus one by one before I got the fragment. Made the actual ending *much* easier.

I've never got any other destruction spell to work for that. The spell impacts with no effect.

Awwww hellz yeah, son. I spam the hell outta sleeping draugr--both in the open catacombs, and in the sarcophagi.

Like a reversed breaching charge! I never though of using them like that, but that's an awesome idea.

Try a mid to high level lightning type spell - it *does* work. I think I recall fire type spells didn't.
