Sigh. NPCs I'm not aware of killing Dragon!

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 12:53 am

I was just walking along, minding my own business, when my character started glowing. At first I thought someone had cast a fire spell on me, but then after a moments it said "Dragon Soul absorbed". Then I walk a few feet and I see some NPCs walking back towards me as though they had just gotten out of a battle. That...Kinda svcks. I feel cheated out of what was apparently a unique dragon(Since I know from friends that not ALL dragons give you Dragon Souls), and hell, I can't even find the damnable things body!

Not sure what the entire purpose of this post is beyond just to rant at gamesass poor planning on this kind of thing >< I know they want the world to be alive, and in most instances, I really love it!, but in this case, I don't. Especially this dragon, as I suspect it's one that I came across a while ago but got [censored] by and had intended on fighting it again once I got a bit stronger. Now I get no revenge or anything! Actually, here's a point: Any fixes for this by the modding community?

All dragons will give you a soul the first time you kill them, named or otherwise. The "unusual" ones which respawn - the ones resting on the word walls on the heights for instance - will only give you a soul the first time. After they respawn, they don't give you a soul if you kill them again.

You got the soul. All you lost was the bones/scales. The game is random.... which is pretty awesome for a SPMR/sandbox game....

This happened to me in Dawnstar once. I was walking through town going by the museum, suddenly lots of whirling and swirling and "dragon soul absorbed".. Huh? Where? What? I looked around for the body but no luck. Of course there was the time that I fast traveled to a bandit camp near Whiterun... suddenly a dragon skeleton dropped right beside me! WTH? It was a named dragon to boot! That I didn't like. So I reloaded, retraveled until the body didn't show up. I hated the idea of missing on killing a named dragon. Of course, many hours of play later... I've never come across that dragon. :P I believe it started with an "M".. maybe, too long ago now.

I fast traveled to the Shrine of Meridia once, nearest discovered location for a quest I was doing, and saw one Dragon flying away, and a dead one on the ground. So, either the first dragon killed the second, or it was the fox that was running around nearby. :ermm:

If it was Mirmulnir (only named dragon starting with M that I can think of atm) then that's the dragon you are sent to kill outside Whiterun. I had that boney corpse often drop out of the sky on my head when cells were loaded.

OP, did you recruit some Blades? I've been disgusted with them since they demanded I kill an awesome character for them, but if you help them out with 3 recruits they go out and hunt dragons on their own.

Someone killed a dragon for you and you're complaining?

Weird that y'all couldn't find the bones because I thought you had to be pretty close to get the soul. I killed one at the College of Winterhold once and it dropped dead on one of the turrets/stairwells on the second floor when I was on the narrow bridge leading to the courtyard; I couldn't absorb it's soul until I went up to the 2nd floor and approached it. :o

Yeah, after a while, they just get to be annoying. Waste of time stopping to kill the blasted things.
