is this claw quest related and if so how do i start the quest because reading the journal and touching the claw doesnt activate any kind of quest .-.

Trying to understand the OP's question led to an Epic Fail.

I know what he's talking about, it's a mysterious claw, you find outside a barrow and for life of me, can't think what barrow it's for.

If you know what it's called you can just wiki it.

The investigators chest is in the library at the college. You need what is inside to use the glove (or hand) found in the Midden.

Don't want to give any more away though.

It's a cool little side quest. But you can't do anything with the glove until you get what's inside the chest.

He's not talking about the puzzle claws to open the puzzle doors inside dungeons. He's talking about the glove on a mantle in the Midden beneath the college.

Which one do you have?
There are a bunch of them. Coral, Ebony, Gold, Iron, Glass, Sapphire, Ruby, Ivory, etc.
I think I found all of them in the places they were needed except for the Coral one. That one is for a cave just east of the two farms that are just southeast of Windhelm.

I got two coral claws. I first went to the location that you need to use it at and found one there. Then a woman sold it to me for 50 gold in Winterhold.
