Slowing down the leveling rate of crafting

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 5:35 pm

I'm not liking the way my crafting levels me so quickly, is there a way or mod that will slow down the rate of leveling my character for crafting?

TIA Tess

From what I've noticed, forging things levels you up faster than improving already existing weapons and armor. So I guess you can do that or just not craft as much.

Sans, mods. this is the best method. You can improve the items you find, and sell them, thus leveling your crafting slower as well as leveling speech.

For enchanting, not much help there without a mod. You can only disenchant so many items.

Alchemy levels the slowest, and at the best pace, I've found. The problem with the others is that there are no diminishing returns. Crafting/Enchanting iron daggers is just as effective as crafting/enchanting glass, for instance.

Make sure you aren't rested, and aren't using the associated stone. You also won't level up as quickly the higher your level is, so don't craft things until your level is in the 20's.

You could artificially reduce it by only crafting jewelry and the occasional armor for yourself.

I think what he/she is asking is: is there a way to level crafting, but in a way that it doesn't level your class-less level. Like level Smithing to 100 without it having as much of an effect of your overall class level.

FWIW: I don't know of a way.

I think someone's working on a mod for this sort of issue. I hope so.... because there's a really cool jewelcrafting mod I'd like to use - but I don't care to make 4 bits of jewelry and gain a level! (Exaggerated, but still....)

I did smithing on my last character and I was shocked at how incredibly fast that skill rose. Five to six items would fill up the entire experience bar. Meanwhile, my experience bars for Alchemy and Speech barely seemed to move.

If Skyrim is anything like the previous two games it's likely that there's a GMST controling rate of experience gain for each skill. I might take a look at it soon if nobody else does it.
