Roleplaying a "Blade".

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 5:21 pm

Ok, so it's not really viable to roleplay a Blade seeing as are strangers to you. However, could you perhaps roleplay as a disciple of a Blade, namely Acilius Bolar, the dead Blade whose sword and writ can be found in Bloated Man's Grotto? Here are the contents of the writ:

Spoiler
"To he who finds this, know that I, Acilius Bolar, last of the Blades to survive the attack on Cloud Ruler Temple, took refuge here, in this ancient sanctuary. The Thalmor have come for me, but they shall not desecrate this place. I go forth to meet my death with honor. If you are worthy, take up my blade and do the same."

Perhaps you can roleplay that you were his disciple for a number of years, then ventured to Cyrodiil, only to return to Skyrim upon hearing of his death. You could then take up his sword, upgrade it through smithing, and seek to avenge his death.

Why did you even post this in the General section? I could hardly discuss this at all without spoiling something. Heck you even have a spoiler tag in the OP!

I wouldn't bother rp'ing a blade in Nirn's day and age. They have become a disgrace and abandoned what they have believed in for years. it's a crying shame that Bethesda decided to make them essential, because with what they have become, they deserve to die.

I agree, but that's a subject for another topic. One entitled something like "Why do the Blades svck so bad...?"

Anyway, back to the OP, I went out and got creative and RP'd a Forsworn (pics and story in sig) just because I loved the Lore so much, so I can see where you are coming from.

The problem in Skyrim is that there is really never an acknowledgement of the Blades. Even if you join them, get three more to join, and go out on your dragon raids, it's just that no one cares. They are techically a dead faction, and the two remaining figure they will jump on dragon slaying to restore themselves and gain something back, but it just doesn't work.

The story you have, return, get sword, avenge is nice, but I just don't know if it's enough to carry you through the whole MQ. It might be as it is an excellent start.

I play the Skyrim where the Blades are a bunch of narrow minded relics. What about you?

If you are on a PC, you can create any story you want with the CK :) I've RP'd a guard, a bandit, and currently a miner on my game. If you can imagine it, make it happen!

To those who are complaining about the state of the Blades in Skyrim - Does he have to RP a blade who is like them? You could easily RP a Blade who sticks to the old ideals, and doesn't agree with the others, or you could be ignorant, or agree with them, it's a character - they don't have to be right.

I think it sounds like a fun RP, a Thalmor hunter with a bit more story, I like it. It could be very well developed.

That'd be about the only way I could rp as a blade in Skyrim. The ones we have now have left a bad taste in my mouth.

Wait for a giant to put its big ass hammer down, steal it, and lay down flat where the hammer was. He will then use you as a weapon, and you'll have successfully role played as a blade.

I'm all for the Empire, but the Blades really have nothing to do with the Empire anymore. Once they were a great group, but then the Thalmor broke them and the Empire turned it's back on them. Now it's a few stragglers that are so narrowmindedly focused on killing dragons that it's all they really care about. They don't serve the Empire anymore and they certainly don't serve the Dragonborn. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that they want YOU to serve them.

I see them not quite as stereotyped as you do. Yes, they are tough and dominant and demanding, but I allow them to be it, because they have a "can do" attitude. While the Greybeards send me to get the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller do the Blades got it all by themselves, and left a note, too!

The Greybeards only ever question my motive, they treat me like a dumb child and keep Paarthurnax secret from me while I carry their food up the hill. The Greybeards think that I should not know everything and the things they do let me know depend entirely on their will and whenever they think the time is right. Say, what do you make of that?

I have no desire to kill the Greybeards. I simply walk away from them and let them live in the stupid cold of the mountain. Maybe they are all wise, but they hide it well.

The Blades then offered all the information to me they had at the time. They gave me a map of all the dragon burial sites, they gave me the horn of jurgen windcaller, they help me to get into the Thalmor embassy, they trust me to recruit their new members, they train them and sent these new Blades to support me and they constantly find new dragons as well as offer a blessing.

I did hesitate when they asked me to kill Paarthurnax, but not because I have feelings for a dragon, but because I see Paarthurnax as a tool in my fight against the dragons. I could have cared less about justice and over one dragon at that time, but it was important to the Blades and I see them as my team. And in a team it is all for one and one for all.

Oh, I never said I liked the Greybeards any better. They're like a bunch of peace loving hippies that are just fine with the world coming to an end. Paarthurnax put them in their place, though. And the Blades? They're not your team. If anything, you're THEIR tool. And the moment you don't do what they want, they dump you. Of the three of them, Paarthurnax is the only one that's truly helpful.

Nonsense. It is not a good argument. This is just you being paranoid and making it all dramatic.

Should I not like them will I walk away, move on and leave them behind. If you cannot do this but you need to blame then the fault was yours. You will likely have expected something of them, possibly for free, and when you saw the price did you turn bitter instead of seeing them as equal. Most if not all things come at a price. What were you expecting? That they become additional followers like the housecarls and so you can walk around with a little army?

I see eye to eye with them.

Um... what? I expected nothing of them. And my argument was a lot more valid than what you just said. The entire game, they tell YOU to do stuff, despite the claim that they serve the Dragonborn. And then they tell you to kill Paarthurnax and refuse to talk or cooperate with you until you comply with their desires. It's just like I said. They use you and then dump you the moment you don't do what they want.

And yes, if they really do serve the Dragonborn, then they should follow you. But they don't. You follow and obey them.

Just do with the Blades that have forgotten the old ways with the Dark Brotherhood that have forgotten their old ways: find a crazy jester and wait for the problem to solve itself.

mmmm last tie i saw my dragonborn was not an emporer and last i recall the oath they made were to tiber septim's bloodline..which are all emporers and that oath got fulfilled with the last septim..martin. The blades serve me...not as attendents or bootlickers that do my every whim, they serve me by giving me intel, trainign my recruits, showing me the way. They do this because as dragonborn im to be like grand old Tiber Septim..what did he do? He killed and dominated dragons...seeing how Odahviing sees my as his new master, ive dominated him and the blades have no problem with it. Paar..well he gives me this big speel about how he meditating and overcoming the need to dominate...and then as soon as Alduin's gone, hes off to dominate the dragons with the way of the voice.....it really seems like hes been keeping himself in check to win over the only creatures that have ever been able to take on Alduin head to head and as soon as Alduin's gone...Paars off to go dominating again...

Really? I know there was a single dragon in service to the empire but I don't recall Tiber being known for being a dragonslayer as most were gone (even those listed as alive by the Blades were by and large in hiding for many eras before he was born). Hell he only seemed to have on shout (likely Fus Ro Dah) in lore

hes off to dominate the dragons with the way of the voice.....it really seems like hes been keeping himself in check to win over the only creatures that have ever been able to take on Alduin head to head and as soon as Alduin's gone...Paars off to go dominating again...

It's subjective here, as that's what's intended. Paar implied that if he succumbed to his evils he would be a problem, but believes he can turn his race around. The Way of the Voice is decisively a peaceful practice - after all, the greybeards refuse to teach you any excessively destructive shouts (Fus Ro Dah is somewhat destructive but can be seen as a fairly tame self defence technique not designed to be brutal but can be misused), and one of the founding principals of the way is to not use shouts to fight unless forced to. Your character isn't actually practising it if they use shouts normally.

Personally I spared Paarthurnax because he's A: Awesome and B: If he becomes a problem I can kill him easily later, he's weaker than his brother was.
