Now I have a quest in my journal, "Report to the Jarl of Whiterun" only when I see him he has naught but the usual conversation talking points. There's nothing to "report" to him. For once the UESP Wiki is a dead end.

On a side note, I took dear old Lydia out to do these quests with me. I had given her the infamous Ebony Mail and had found some serious ebony stamina booties to give to her. Wow, she was the icebreaker, the troops following in her wake! Except when we arrived in the Reach, when a dragon and a cave bear attacked. She poisoned an imperial soldier and I thought, "well this is buggered for sure." But he obliged by dieing and all was well. At the very end, in Windhelm, as Tullius delivered his peroration, I saw the assembled troops jostled and pushed aside. Guess who? Yeah, better late than never Lydia pushed her way through to me! Good girl! Have a biscuit.
