If Skyrim were Multiplayer....

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 10:14 pm

If skyrim were multiplayer it would probably be the best mmorpg out there. Yes, I know it would be hard to implement but how awesome would it be to go into dungeons with friends or just meet up at a bar and have a good time?

What are your opinions?

Give Bethesda a few years (or decades) and they're sure to make a MMORPG

This, pretty much. The day TES is multiplayer is the day I stop playing it.

If Skyrim were an MMO.....it would fail as if you want a Sword & Magic MMO there is already WoW.

Also, MMOs don't tend to do well on consoles....which is where the main market for Skyrim is.

I think multiplayer would work but not an MMO. ES games are concentrate on good single player games so as long as multiplayer does not interfere with that, like how it was done in borderlands

The ES main market will always be on PC, these games are designed for PC. I do think an ES game could work as an MMO, Tamriel alone is huge and thats just the one land mass, there is still the rest of the planet. Add that to the lack of interaction between you character and almost everything else and it feel like an MMO, without the other players.

I've jokingly said for years that if they made an MMO based off of TES and it's lore I'd loose my job.

I've played mmo's for over 10 years (EQ mostly), up until the end of last year as I don't have the time for them anymore. I would, however, love to see an mmo based on TES and would probably play it, though not at the sacrifice of the single player TES series.

Borderlands = Best Co-op game I've ever played.

for me, as with all games, if it is not a single-player oriented game with dozens of hours of gameplay minimum, i wouldn't play or own it.

My standard reply...

My opinion is that any sort of multiplayer or co-op would severely diminish the single player experience. TES is a role-playing game, therefore, gameplay is more than combat, it is about open world exploration, dialogue with NPC's, and story (in the which you, as the player are the main character). Adding any form of multiplayer/co-op would completely change every aspect of the game and not for the better.

Multiplayer is on the rise as a gameplay feature, but it would be a shame to lose one of the few great single player RPG's.

No, it actually isn't.
TES was designed for PC, but now It will be ported.
TES main marker was PC, now its Console, I'd say more than half of the customers are PS3 and Xbox 360

There may be more players on xbox/ps3 than on PC. But PC is most likely the platform that brings the most revenues among the three.

We have an existing multiplayer discussion topic here: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1320106-official-tes-multiplayerco-op-thread/

Also, there are a couple of people working on MP mods in the Skyrim mods sub-forum.
