Xbox360 Right Bumper button

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:31 pm

Hello All,

I am really enjoying Skyrim (patched version 1.4) on the Xbox360 at the mo, but I can't seem to get my 'Heal' magic spell bound to the preffered button, so when in battle I can hit the right bumper button for a quick heal etc, this is how it used to play on Oblivion, at the moment that button does not have any use, any help would be appreciated of how to get the controls as close to Oblivion as possible ?

Right bumper is shout and right trigger would activate any spell/weapon you've assigned to your right hand. In the item menus select the item with either the left or right trigger, depending on what hand you want that item to be held in.

I haven't found a way to do that. The right bumper button is reserved for shouts and 'powers.' When you equip the spell it shows up on your right or left hand depending on which trigger you pull when the spell is selected. That would be cool though.

Yes i believe so, but I have not got to that stage in the game yet and it makes sense to me to have the heal spell on that button when not using the Dragon Shout thingy ??

Yes but I don't want to have to go in the Menu and unbind my weapons just for a quick heal etc ?

Your going to have to learn, as thats the way its done. Either have lots of healing potions on the favourites menu or learn to toggle during combat.

Well that is how you heal - assign it to one or both of your hands. I often have a sword in one hand and a healing spell in the other.
Add heal spell to favourites to make it a little simpler but I agree its not ideal.

I don't get why I could have any magic bound to the bumper button on Oblivion as well as drawn weapons and not in Skyrim, was it always that way on Oblivion or was a feature added later etc, Skyrim controls seem a step backwards IMO it does not make much sense :(

You could switch the controls in the control menu, I did that with POV and wait, got tired of clicking the right stick to look at my character, pressing select is much easier.

Magic is magic and needs to be cast using your hands, Oblivion was the same. Potions on the other hand can be taken without using either hand, and in Oblivion could be mapped to a quickslot for "quick heals". Skyrim on console only has 2 quickslots and a quickmenu. You will need to learn and make usage of the quickmenu in combat.
