Fast travel...I changed my mind and use it with specific rul

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 1:02 pm

I don't understand the carriages. Why would I pay when I can just FT.Does it do something different then just get me there? I've never used one.

Yeah, I thought it would be an animated ride, like in the intro, but it was just another trigger for FT. A bit pointless,"FT for free" or "FT for money" (Carriage)?

I applaud anyone, including the OP of course, who finds a way to enjoy this game in their own style.

Personally, I'm sticking to my 100%-no-FT philosophy. I've yet to use it, even once, on any character, and I'm sticking to that. But that's me, and I still remember how FT crept into my Oblivion playstyle and ended up really damaging my enjoyment of that game, and once I started FT in that game I couldn't seem to stop. I think if I thought I was likely to be as disciplined as the OP (only FT between towns/cities I've been to before) then maybe it would work for me. But I dunno, I genuinely enjoy walking every step on foot. I also have never (and will never) hit the wait button.

If the carriage rides were like the intro I would use them, but once I read they were basically just another way to FT I decided to never use them, either.

I think this game is so beautiful that I enjoy the long runs and the chance encounters on the road.

i feel fast travel SHOULD be used with MY game rules because the developers of games have yet to get their system to match my rules or provide me with the proper options, as i deem correct. it depends entirely on my roleplaying decisions before character creation.

for example: to use ft for loot is ridiculous, unless, i could buy a cart or use a horse. but, even then there would be different amounts i'd be capable of transporting. not being able to fast travel between high traffic cities and some towns would be very UNREALISTIC.

my game. my rules.

I'm starting to use fast travel a lot more now but I'm not one of those "never use FT people." If I have to cross an area I've traveled through plenty of times, I FT no problem. Many times if I have to travel from point A to C, I will fast travel to B. Everyone can play how they want, no big deal but I'm glad I dont spend an half of a gaming session traveling places I've crossed many times before. I usually only play for a couple hours too so its just a lot of wasted time too.

Agree, also hoped for animated ride, although slightly faster pace than the intro :P And then with a capability to "skip to end" when you're done eating. Still, I'm glad they put it in. Even if so tiny it hardly matters, at least there is some kind of penalty (money) for using it. It's a built in system, that hopefully can be expanded upon, that still allows me to play without fast travel. So far on my new (level 30'ish) character, I've only fast traveled twice, to correct something I messed up, in the same quest :P If the game didn't have fast traveling, I'd either swallow it or reload.

I'd really like to see the carriage services be quest driven. Where you can go, and at what prices, and how often, depends on what you do for the "carriage faction". From clearing a given route for nearby bandit lairs to dragons in the vicinity in order to open up a route. Obtain road maps to the faction from a certain location. Get rid of the competition. That sort of things. Getting this "fast travel" would feel more like an award.

My FT RP comes after I exit a house that I just got done robbing blind and I know that I've gotten away Scott free I'll FT out of the area to simulate the concept of vanishing into thin air.

* and just like that, I'm gone.

I have much stricter rules for fast travelling. For me, I only fast travel to the stables or palace for whatever city I am in, and I only use the carriages to get to cities I've already walked to.

I would like to be able to travel between the major cictes which you can in this game by carriage only. would like a mages guild like travel system too, maybe with some locations in the smaller cities. I would like mark and recall back so I could set where I desire to teleport to. I would also like the intervention spells and scrolls back to take me to a temple/shrine or fort, something like that. It would have been great if they added boats to connect all of the coastal cities.

I also fast travel to High Hrothgar after I walk the 7,000 steps once or twice.

I wish more people have do this instead of complaining that Fast Travel is in the game. It's a choice.

Yeah but certain people don't want ANYONE else using fast travel. You can't make those people shut up.

Nice idea. Except, aren't there, like, three ships in the entire game? :P I think those ships have their hands full just transporting supplies and goods, let alone passengers.

I believe someone in the other FT thread mentioned that they have 2 "modes", questing mode and exploration mod, I do something similar depending on my mood. Sometimes I feel like completing a specific quest, and in that case I'll FT to wherever the quest is, because I'm focused on doing the quest. Other times though, if I don't know what do or I just don't feel like being as focused I'll travel by foot. Just yesterday I traveled from Riften to Riverwood on foot and had a lot of fun, but it's not something I'd want to do every time.

Btw, one advantage to the carriage is that it can take you to places you haven't been to before. Although I would probably skip the carriage traveling movie if it was included, I would like random events added to carriage traveling (and maybe even FT) such as bandit attacks and the like.

Well it would have been nice if they could actually build the ships. I mean Solitude is supposed to be a major port city.

The interrupted travel thing is so old-school, though. I'm glad they haven't included it. It's been beaten to death and back.

haha. Whatever floats your boat. I haven`t used FT since forever from Oblivion to now right up to max skills and never will.

Not using FT is the one way I can guarantee that something different WILL happen and the game doesn`t bore me to death as I go from A to B to Z.
