Fortify Destruction + Runes

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 11:33 pm

I'm thinking of creating a stealthy mage character who relies on Fortify destruction potions for a damage boost when not using illusion and wanted to see if I could make runes at all useful. If I drink a potion and place a rune on the ground, but an enemy triggers the rune after the effects of the potion have worn off, will the rune still have a damage boost or not? i.e when is the rune damage calculated, at the time of placement or at the time of triggering it?

Also, is there any way of stacking more than one fortify destruction potion? I've read people saying that drinking potions of different magnitudes works, but that's obviously wrong. What about potions with different secondary effects, since you can stack poisons that way?

Runes got implemented very very poorly. Such a good idea and such bad implementation.

I am not sure if they get boosted by fortify dest, but the 1 rune at a time makes that strategy suffer.

If you are on the PC, I would suggest getting the "4 runes at a time" mod, along with a "balanced destruction mod" (I did)

That way you can place multiple runes, and they scale in damage as your skill increases.

right now 1 at a time for 50 is just silly beyond level 25 or so.

with those 2 mods, and runemaster, you may find yourself using runes almost exclusively.

I've got this game for PS3, unfortunately. I really like the idea behind runes too, mostly because my aim is terrible, so I'm trying to work out a way to make them useful. A dual cast rune with a fortify destruction potion should do well over 200 damage, which is not too shabby at all.

IIRC dual cast does not affect runes?
Can't say for sure since I have been casting them offhand, sword in other.

It does, I remember testing this myself when Skyrim first came out because for some reason I felt that it shouldn't. It's augmented flames, etc. perks that don't, according to the wiki at least.

You need the dual cast perk for that then?

Cool to know-

Edit- and to agree- that irked me as well when i found the augment damage perks were not workibg with runes... I mean... Come on!
