Saarthal.....

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 2:52 pm

Hello,

I recently started the forbidden Legend quest. And I am currently at Sarthaal and of course it is locked and I need a key. So after some research I found at that I have to join the mage guild?!
I mean my character is barbarian. I don't want to join the mage guild. So is there any way to get into saarthal without joining the mage guild. Or isn't there a mod that solves this?
Because I don't like to be forced to join things that I don't want to. I mean if the quest was a specific quest at the mage guild then I am fine with that. But now I picked up a quest that has nothing to do with the mage guild, and the game suddenly goes like :

"oh yeah you want to complete that quest? you have to join a guild that totaly does not fit in with your character to complete that. what?, you don't want to join that guild? well though luck for you because otherwise you cannot complete the quest!"

I find this total bs there should be a way to get the key without joining the college. Or at least there should be a quest called : "the door to shaarthal is closed but don't worry, you can get a battering ram somewhere else to breach this [censored]"

if someone knows a way to get into Sarthaal without joining the mage guild please help me out.

I assume you have Skyrim for PC? Did you try entering the "Unlock" code from the console to try to open the door? Make sure you click on the door to obtain the hex code before doing it.

there is a way to enter it via the console but later on the boss draugr is invulnerable or something so you have to kill him using the console too. And yeah.... that is kind of lame. I dont mind using the console once to enter something but using the console to kill something, that is just kind of lame. Kind of suprised by the lack of choice on this quest. I remember In Morrowind that almost all the locks could be picked. So you where not forced to do certain quests.....

You can join the guild just for that part of their arch and then forget all about the mages guild.

Is there also no option for leaving guilds? or an option to abandon a quest? :ermm:

Mmmmm, you can like attack the arch-mage, or kill one of them, or something.

I don't know if there is a "kick out of guild" system in Skyrim. (I'm the arch-mage in mine so obviously I can't find out).

I don't like that either. You shouldn't have to join a guild you don't want just to complete another (unrelated) quest.

Think of it as fooling the Guild for your own selfish whims. Then kill em all.

If I would roleplay this, I'd think of it as Saarthal being College territory, like they closed it off because they're working in it. So it would be logical they'll only allow College members to visit the ruin. In that perspective, you can roleplay a character being so desperate to enter that he'll pretend he's interested in magic and joins the college. After your business with it is done, I believe you can simply steal something from the College and get caught, so you'll be suspended. Or kill someone, but that's rather extreme imo.

This is basically what I did on my orc berserker, who I had even using a torch because Candlelight is magic and magic is for elves and....more elves. Just choose totally disinterested dialogue options, take everything you see, and once you're Arch Mage, kill whoever's non-essential/refuses to serve your goals.

While the ability to not have a choice in the matter is lame, that's what imagination's for. The game's what you make of it, and if you just want to kill all mages after they've served their purpose, then do it!

Well, at least with the Mages' Guild, there's a quest to get back IN (assumedly after you get kicked out....)

So.... I guess orcs aren't Orsimer in your game?

Nah, just figure that my character had a very barbaric view of the world. Since your character is caught crossing the border from Cyrodil, I just conjured up that she was really not into magic at all because of the Aldmeriri Dominion and all that. Like a very Nordic ideal about magic, basically.

Also as far as I know, there's a quest for all factions to get accepted back in if you kill/attack/rob a member. Except for the Companions since I can't find anything saying there's a way to get kicked out aside from murdering them all.

Just join the mage's college. It hardly has anything to do with being a mage anyways. The mage's college and bard's college are more like adventure guilds...

I was really hoping the Bard's College would have more extensive quests like the other factions in the game. Or maybe you could just run around playing a lute or a drum or something.

Well, the story of Olaf revolves around the bards history, but you have to stumble upon this very obscure quest to find out about it. I don't remember the name of it, but you enter a nordic ruin, and the ghost of a bard will lead you to his body. The rest I'll let you find out on your own.
