Paarthurnax Conversation, very cool

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 2:03 pm

Skyrim is the first Elder Scrolls game I have played. I've done a lot of reading about the lore and I'm loving every minute of it. But last night I experienced what has, so far, been my favorite moment in the game. I'm a level 51 thief/smith and I've been putting off the trip to the top of the throat of the world. But once I went up there I was incredibly happy with what I found.

It's kind of funny, because this first encounter with Paarthurnax is so brief, but I just really enjoyed the subject matter of that conversation between the old dragon and the dragonborn. So far it has really been the most enjoyable Elder-Scrolls moment for me.

What are your thoughts about that first encounter with the old Dovah?

The MQ isn't all that interesting to me. I guess it was cool the first time I talked to him though.

I wondered if he was edible.

All the conversations with Paar are awesome. I actually saved before the big ones so I can go back - there's one in particular that blew my mind and I keep mining for info.

I tried to kill it, but I could not because it was essential. It has the cleanliness and superbness of any magic dragon you have ever imagined to it that you must try to kill it.

I found/find it irritante, annoying, that Paarthurnax repetir todo dos veces, repeats everything twice. Once in dragon tongue and again in English. It's condescendencia, condescending.

I thought it was pretty cheeseball....... The language they created for the dragons is just embarrassing to listen to and the fact that he repeats things was just dumb in my opinion

I, uh, attacked him the first time I saw him. I'm not good at predicting twists (I am however, good at predicting the predictable, I've seen enough tropes in common media to see when they're coming), so it didn't even occur to me that their master was a dragon.

But then he started talking to me and I was like "Oh."

I liked the conversation too. He has a much different personality than any other person or creature in the game, and did a good job portraying that.

I liked the convos with Paar. It got to the point that he was like my char's mentor, that I couldn't kill him when the Blades wanted me to. I know it's just a game, but the Blades came off as complete douchebags when they wanted me to kill a dragon that has been helping me and even them.

I found the mixing of dragon and English annoying. Also the lip synching for talking dragons is horrible - looks like a beginner animation job.

Which is more worth it killing him or letting him live?

Six of one, half dozen of the other.

I agree with the OP, rounding the top of the Throat Of The World and seeing Paarthunax perched there on the word wall was one of the finest moment of the game for me, too. Thankfully I didn't try to blast him to the skies upon seeing him, thanks to my "never strike first" attitude. I approached with great caution and had a grin from ear to ear when he started talking.

I liked his way of speaking as well. I thought it gave him a certain depth compared to the other dragons. Aside from that, give him a break, he's old enough to be your far ancestor. If he is a bit confused and slips into his own language now and then, surely that's understandable! :P
