The glorious Ice Spike!

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 8:58 pm

Gods I love this spell. It's so funny to see someone with a spear of ice sticking out of their head just keep fighting, or a bunny that takes one up the ass slide several feet down the road.

Where's all the love for ice spiking stuff?

Lowish level on my first character, I was wandering around and came across some nutty mage living in a shack in the mountains near a dragon. He was too tough for me, so I ran out of his house and hid, and he started fighting the dragon. An epic battle ensued with him, the dragon, two bears, and me watching from a distance and firing arrows around. I killed the dragon with an arrow half a second before he hit it with an ice spike, and the dragon was knocked about 500 yards across the clearing, landing upside down on the mountain slope on the other side with a big spike through it. Looked pretty cool.

I find ice spike/spear to both be rather amusing.

I'd still like to know why the enemy ice spikes seem to be so powerful while mine, even leveled up, seem like they do almost nothing.

My favourite is to go up to a freshly downed dragon, and fire a pair of ice spikes into it like a frozen nipble-cripple of doom; it goes sailing through the skies on fire trailing smoke and debris

Your enemies spell scale yours does not: the magic system in this game is a joke compared to the others.

Enemies spells don't scale, it's difficulty scaling. Master difficulty increases all enemy damage dealt by like x5 or x8 - ice spikes hit for 60 damage, 90 with augemented frost 2. With a x5 modifier that's 450 damage. Even with 50% resistance that's still enough to kill many squishier players in a single hit

I am pretty sure the spells scale with your enemies.

I am on adept at level forty six and I can still get two to three ice spikes and die.

Can not find a link on it, I looked do you have one?

I wish the difficulty would sometimes just make more enemies rather than making them super hard.

ice spikes and arrows that stick out of peoples heads and then they stop fighting and look rather funny.

Yeah, the Ice Spike after effect is pretty hilarious.

My destruction mage stuck exclusively to fire and lightning, but with my current character I'm trying to fully develop both sword and board and destruction, I'll have to give ice a try (maybe ice and fire, I'm kind of partial to fireballs.) I do like the ice spike sound effect.

There will be mods like MMM soon enough that let's you control the spawn size. Impact stun-lock and stealth might be a bit less cheesy against mobs that crowd together more.

It HAS to be by mods instead of coming with the game because of the limited computing power of consoles and older PC. (yes non-gaming PC exists)

Master difficulty makes enemies deal default damage (meaning they are not weakened or buffed against you). As you slide down the difficulty, you don't resist their attacks, they just deal a percentage of it less.

Good to know there's some appreciation out there for the ice spike. :)

The first time a hagraven killed me with one I was like. "What is sticking out of me?!"
