non fitting armour

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 3:17 pm

i am playing as an Argonian and recently completed the thieves guild guest line and was dissipointed with the nighingale cowl as it doesnt fit the head. it just stays and a non beast race profile. every other piece of armour that i know of fits all races. like with the beast races the helmets extend down the face.

even the executioners hood fits the profile of the beast races, but it serves no purpose other then RPing.

agian with the beast races have horns. large ears and tails. i know its not game breaking but i looks like the devs put no effort in to the beast races in terms of armour.

if you have seen any other bits of armour that dont fit then nplease jion the conversation.

The Dark Brotherhood's hoods and cowls don't work on beast races at all I don't think. Though those are highly messed up considering the masked versions of them only work on female characters anyway. Very annoying to have your face on full display when you're supposed to be acting secretly.

Other than a few pieces here and there, any Helm that had a faceplate would not work on Beast Races, because of the snout. It has been this way since Morrowind really.

Think of the bright side. At least you don't have to run around in the snow without boots now.

Instead you have boot-shaped feet, with toes just drawn on. :yucky:

You mean the DB armor/clothing doesn't cover male character's faces? ...or just the animal-like races? I've got Astrid's clothing on my male Nord warrior character, but I don't think I've ever put the cowl on - his face wouldn't be covered? :o

There is no masked cowl for male or beast race characters (regardless of six). Odd, since the mask is pretty much intended for Astrid; why not just give her a unique cowl?

Beast races get screwed over for the Ancient and Worn Shrouded Cowls, though, since they don't even appear correctly.

Most helmets and hoods have a beast race-specific mesh, but the Nightingale cowl is not among them, likely because is covers the entire head.

If you complete the DB questline, a nameless initiate also wears a masked cowl.

No, its just a hood, not a ninja-style cowl

Damn. :( I try not to bash Bethesda over every bug because I know how difficult it is to code a game of this magnitude, but to not have the hoods/cowls work properly just seems rushed.

It didn't bother me too much, mostly because I rarely wore the gear outside of the Sanctuary (and I took off the hood indoors), and for the jobs I tended to dress in disguise, because it didn't make sense to walk around in clothes that screamed "I'm an assassin." For example, I remember going to a lovely wedding as a Priest of Mara, and later visiting the bride as a Priest of Arkay.

OMG, I do that too. I don't wear the headgear around 'people' (non-hostiles, Sanctuary, TG, etc) and I never wear the DB or Nightingale stuff in public until the exact moment of the 'task'. My chick wears either Tavern Clothes with a Gold and Emerald Circlet or Noble's Robes (which I renamed Pirate Princess' Robes) with a Gold and Ruby Circlet when not on 'jobs'. :P I actually wore the Chef's garb for the one job. Even on my dude who wears his armor most of the time I don't wear the helmet around 'people'.

When I had to go speak with Amaund Motierre in Whiterun, I remember dressing up in Tavern Clothing, opening the door to see if he wanted anything, going upstairs to change into the gear, and casting an invisibility spell to go back unseen, close the doors and immediately drink an invisibility potion (timing was pretty hard to get right) and then get behind him to start talking to him. A lot of steps necessary to do it, but I liked the idea of suddenly appearing behind him to talk to him about our contract.

I talked to Miuri about her contract in the Silver-Blood Inn. There must have been at least half a dozen people there, but she had no problems dicussing the details out in the open. On another save, I talked to her about it right in front of a guardsman.

 I know, right? I love that. I'm always like, "Shh, shh, nah, we don't wanna'..." when I go to a Fence with like Mjoll or Lydia and he or she says, "...normal Guild rate."

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=5696 gives you cowls and hoods for beast races. Multiple cowls and multiple textures.
Just stopped using it as my nose to earring chain is cooler but don't have an argonian version of it.

Beast race abuse is also present in all other full helmets I have seen, including the dragon priest masks.
I call it abuse as it looks extremely painful to wear them.

I'm on the PS3. Plays pretty well overall. No major performance issues except for Patch 1.2. I wish I could use some of the small mods though...

 lol Nicely worded example, you just made my day! In the file I did the DB in (I usualy dont, doesnt fit my robinhood like character), I only wore my atire in the sanctuary, or when on a mission that didnt call for a more "civil look" that could let me blend better.

I can think of at least one piece of (modded) armor for Morrowind that had boots for Argonians.

I've read that this is mainly due to the beards/mustaches of male characters clipping through the masks. I think they pretty much only did the masks to give Astrid an aesthetic look the first time you meet her, and for any additional female characters that use the outfit.

Though it would be cool if they went back and made it so the mask appears on all characters. They need to go back and rectify the "invisble Ancient/Worn Cowl" glitch for the beast races anyway, so why not?
