I've heard that one of the "bosses" for the College, or something else maybe related to it, is incredibly tough to kill with Melee. Is this true, and if so, what's the details about it? As in, is it more-or-less standard battle and getting *to* him is the issue, or is it that it's like trying to destroy a tank with a rusty dagger?

The Mage College? And do you mean an enemy boss in the questline, or the leader of the Mage College?

Hmmm. The Gaulderson boy comes to mind but he is only invincible for a short time. Run around a lot and throw a few conjurations at him to keep him busy until Tolfdir does his thing with the Eye. (I threw my trusty Dremora at him.....twice......svcker). Other than that, I am drawing a blank as far as some dude that resists melee. There is a fight, not College related, (daedric - Peryite) that is immune, supposedly, to magic. I threw my dremora at that dude too. Good luck!

I think you mean the boss foe. It's not so much that he's impossible to kill melee, but that he'll kill you before you can do him. I had to take a bunch of swipes at the guy. Hit from range. Run like h*ll. Recover from the hit taken on the run. Sneak back and hit again.

No way are you going to stand in front of this guy and duke it out. No way I can see.

I guess you mean Ancano. On default level he's not so bad but you need to use the staff to close the orb before he becomes vulnerable (he's invulnerable otherwise) and he does run around a bit so you have to give chase. He'll reopen the orb as he's running so it's a case of *whack whack...use the staff on the orb...whack whack*. If you're low level it's tough but if you get to that point in the game when you're in the 40s or 50s he's pitifully easy.

Hehe, I know who you're talking about. He's a dragon priest named Morokei. Getting to him isn't too bad, but if you try to kill him with melee and you have yet to go into any enchanting, you're going to have a tough time. He's got insane health levels, uses strong spells and summons a storm atronach.

Could be either Ancano or Morokei. The last one is tougher and hits harder. The other is trickier due to you needing to use the staff correctly.


You can't stand in front of either and just whack away.

Morokei can be tough. If you're going to be a mage though, be a Breton with Atronach stone, then you can be immune to his attacks for 60sec a day and just pound him with whatever you've got - very easy.

Neither M nor A is all that hard to kill with melee. They dish out damage pretty fast, but a melee fighter can dish it out faster, and they have almost no armor. Glass cannons.
With M, just be in position to hit him before he take the first shot, and don't let him run away. I literally took him in one shot.
Until the eye is shut down, A is immune to DAMAGE, but not to the effects of certain dragon shouts... though a good stack of healing potions may come in handy, too.

It's the MAGE questline. Most of the enemies are kind of rough to melee.
