Would this be a disfunctional family to be?

So my character has deep feelings for Ingun Black-Briar, but hes a staunch supporter for the stormcloaks. I could see Maven, a supporter of the empire and even admits that she supports the thalmor during the Diplomatic Immunity quest, not liking this potential relationship between her daughter and my character, however since she is power hungry would she make an acceptation base on my characters status as Dragonborn and the savor of the world? Would she actually take an advantage of the situation by using dragonborn to advanced her status in spite of the strong political differences?

I'm not sure Maven Black-Briar is a supporter of anything but herself. She favours the Empire because she has connections there. If you wished from a RP pov you could say she accepts you because shes hedging her bets and sees the sense in cultivating a rising Stormcloak star just in case Ulfric wins.

You also have to add Sibbi Black-Briar to the equation and he's a stone cold killer... Easy to kill though.

Maven is a supporter for the imperials since she has strong connections with the empire. If you side with the imperials and right after you win the civil war she becomes riftens new Jarl. So it's evidently clear that shes a supporter for the imperials. She also appeared at the Thalmor Embassy during the Diplomatic Immunity quest.

Really she's just a supporter of whoever makes her money, so if you are a member of the theives guild you could RP it that way

I actually did this some time ago. It's easier to imagine if you talk to Ingun about her family. She knows full well what self-serving scoundrels they are. She's also at odds with her mother. Drop by their house for breakfast and you'll surely hear Maven upbraid Ingun for dabbling in alchemy. Oh, and Ingun waxes poetic about poisons. That's when I knew she was The One for me, assassin that I am. In fact, I flashed her the Amulet of Mara right there in front of Maven and Hemming.

Downside to it all is that as Jarl, Maven no longer has anything to say. She used to greet me with, "what in the name of Oblivion are you bothering me for?" and I could just imagine some reply where I could call her "mother" just to irritate her.

Maven will lie and use anyone she can until the day she dies. The ideal situation would be to marry Ingun and kill the rest of the Black-Briars - then you're rich from both sides.

I despise the black briar family, with the exception of the daughter, wish Bethesda would have a quest to make her pay for the things she did.

But i can see the real life implication on this... i mean, rich people who use the ones around then for their own accord, usually don't end up paying for what they did... politician's in general.

Well considering I have http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=2710 that makes Ingun awesome...screw the Black-Briars! They're literally the worst of the whole "1%" people. But considering I'm the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, Maven wouldn't mind. In fact, I'd think she'd be happy that her son-in-law is the Dovahkiin and Listener. Puts her in a higher position naturally.

That is, until I lead my rebellion across Skyrim and butcher her for sitting on a bench I want to sit on.

I feel pretty sure that there will be an expansion to deal with them. I know they're essential because of the Civil War and her being necessary if you side with the Empire, but even if you side with the Stormcloaks she's essential. There are plenty of NPCs who lose their essential tag after quests are complete so the fact that she and the one son are essential throughout and that the TG members are essential lead me to believe we may get to 'do something' to them in an expansion.

The problem with with the mod is that I don't like the idea that Ingun turning into a vampire... unless if I'm missing something here. I don't necessary have a problem with the Black-Briars. Maven is a strong businesswoman who does her things to survive in this harsh world. Same with Erikur in solitude who eventually agrees to become allies with the Thieves guild once you do his special job. Who wants to live their lives being poor? Having to degrade yourself in public as a begger, and for what? for a lousy septim or 2? We all have weaknesses. Someone like Maven fears of poverty. That's why she will go out of her way to get rid of her competition. Can't fault the woman for trying to survive.

As a RP stand of point you're right. It's a proven fact that Maven craves for strong contacts therefor the Dovahkin (who has connections not only in the thieves guild, but also the college of winterhold, Dark brotherhood and the companions) would be a great addition to her family, since she can brag about it, and use it for her advantage, if anything happens.

There are plenty of people doing just fine in Skyrim without acting like Maven and Erikur...that is what you're missing. :P

By exploiting politicians and causing political strife? She sides with the Thalmor. That's why I'm smitten by Ingun. The fact that she isn't into the "family business" or any of its pursuits. She aspires for more. Even the Dark Brotherhood has standards (at least the one that follows the Five Tenants). They don't betray their fellow family members, they have respect for higher level and better skilled assassins, and some sense of honor amongst themselves.

But yeah, Maven would love me, not for being her daughter's husband but for being the perfect leverage to do basically whatever. Again, that is until I butcher her secretly.
