Can Soul Gems Be Re-applied To Weapons Later?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 11:43 pm

I have been wondering about re-applying soul gems to weapons and wondering if anyone could help me with a little advice please?

If you have a weapon with an effect on it (for e.g. fire damage) because of a soul gem added to it,
The weapon shows a little bar on its info log in your inventory which depletes and empties itself automatically with use.
When the bar is completely empty, is it possible to re-apply another soul gem so you can reactivate your weapon to get that same effect again?

If this is possible, can you only do this when the soul gem is full? Or can you use empty ones too?
But what I'd like to know is.... how exactly do I re-apply a soul gem to a weapon when it's empty and has been used up?
(if it's possible)

Most of my soul gems are empty. I do have the Soul Trap Spell, but found yesterday that I couldn't use it quite yet as I still have to put a few skill points into Conjuration. Is this how it works? Just wanting to confirm if I'm right or not, from you other budding Skyrim players out there.

before everyone gets on here in and trolls you, yes. you need to use a soul gem with a soul inside it to recharge your enchanted weapons.

Like the dude said. You need to recharge enchanted weapons with filled soul gems. If you can't cast Soul Trap, you can also get weapons which have a soul trap enchantment on them.

Okay, thanks. I know the first part about enchanting a weapon with a soul gem. (at an enchanting table - easy to find, for e.g. at Dragons Reach)
But once the weapon is empty of the applied effect, how do I THEN.... recharge it with a filled soul gem again afterwards?

I can't think how an enchanting table would do this, as I think one can only be used to break weapons and enchant new ones, but not recharge them.
Unless I'm wrong. Hopefully someone out there will help me out.

Have the enchanted weapon open in your inventory screen. Where you have the usual options E to equip, R to drop etc. there will be a new option, T to...er, can't remember what it's called in the game. But it's definitely T to refuel the charge on the weapon.

You have to use filled Soul Gems to recharge weapons.

You recharge them while they are in your inventory. R1 or R2 on the PS3 - you'll see the option in the bottom part of the screen.

You can usually recharge weapons with Common Soul Gems because Greater or Grand would be a waste - more magicka than needed for a full charge.

You probably know this: filled Soul Gems are destroyed* after you recharge weapons just as if you had enchanted with them.

*Azura's Star and Black Star are the only gems that are reusable. They hold only one Grand or Grand/Black Soul respectively at a time.

Thanks a lot for the help guys. It's a bit unclear on my screen, looking at any info at the bottom of the screen which tells you how to recharge a weapon.

As I'm playing on the X Box 360, and having the weapon open in my Inventory, it could be the Y button on my controller.
But nothing happens when I press it, probably because of my soul gems being empty as I have mentioned.
But I think I know what to do now. Thanks.
