Who counts as follower, how do I tell them to follow me?
Could you give me a name or two?
ID numbers are wellcome as well.

I always play alone, don't know who to invite, who is the most useless one I will not miss...
Any suggestions?

to get a follower you need to do a little quest for them. after your done just tell them "follow me, I need your help"
after that they become your follower.
well at least that's what i did with my followers XD

also you can pay 500 gold to get a follower. these people usually seat in bars or somethin.. just waiting for you to hire them. most of them are nords. i met few elves seating and waiting to be hired.
if you want a Khajiit follower then go to the Riften stables and wait for the four caravan Khajiits. one of them can be your follower. he's name is Kharjo... to get him as a follower you need to find his stolen amulet.
there is another khajiit which can be your follower. he's name is Jzargo. go to the College of Winterhold and find him. his quest is to test his flame cloak scrolls on the 3 undead. after reporting he becomes your follower if you ask him to follow you because you need his help.
