Do you have filled soul gems? Have you disenchanted any enchanted items to actually learn enchants?

Meet these requirements.

Also certain enchantments are restricted to certain body parts i.e. body, boots, gloves etc. Can check here for details.http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Enchanting_(Skyrim)

I thought I read somewhere that Farengar at Dragonsreach provided a tutorial on enchanting, similar to what Alvor gives for smithing in riverwood. You could try that.

I only know that the clothes/boots from Diplomatic Immunity cannot be enchanted (at least for me), other than that make sure you are ready to go with a filled soul gem, a "learned" enchantment, and an unenchanted item.

I know how to enchant, but on armor i felt i could almost enchant anything with my learned enchantments. So i wondered why not clothes. Guess i was lucky in my earlier enchantments. The link by S-P was what i needed in retrospect.

Thanks for answerimg,

Cheers,

G
