It was nice to see a Dwemer ruin again...

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 5:32 am

Was travelling in the cold, snowy wastes and saw an unusual ruin, different from the others. Immediately I recognised it from my days in Morrowind- A DWEMER, or dwarven ruin. I spent many, many hours exploring those rusty, dank and clanky places and it was like greetng an old friend to do it all over again and meeting some of the familiar inhabitants. Now with better graphics...

Very nice indeed.

p.s. Unfortunately it killed my Follower...

One of the best things in skyrim IMO. Was so happy to see them back and with some new additions, a great improvement on morrowind Dwemer ruins.

Agreed. The Dwemer ruins are hands-down my favorite locations in the game. They captured their essence from Morrowind perfectly, while adding even more. Very memorable experiences in those ruins!

Yes, very glad they made it into the game. The traps are kind of strange though, who puts a blade trap on their bedroom floor?
Plus, it is impossible to get killed by them, simply jump over. I think they're there to kill your follower.

And I'm annoyed by all the Falmer there, wasn't the Centurions and traps there to make sure they kept out?

The mystery of the Dwemer is one of my favorite aspects of TES. I wish there was some tiny hint as to what happened to them, or how they lived, or something like that. The addition of a certain type of Dwemer devices/structure was good enough for me though. As long as we keep getting tid bits on their lives, the mystery will stay fresh and interesting.

Automatons can only do so much. They cant stop the falmer digging in somewhere else in the complex and moving in to it. Plus the falmer do breed, where as there are no more dwemer around to make new automatons. Limited supply and all that, in an RP perspective.

I totally agree with you. The Dwemer mystery is very profound and now that I found out the Falmer where actually once Snow Elves and trusted the Dwemer, I'm even more intrigued. During a quest, I had to make a copy of some Falmer research and the guy said, I have a book about the Falmer history on my desk - I immediately had to pause everything I was doing to read the book! lol I like how they actually build in a bit more lore about the Falmer in Skyrim!

And the sounds in those ruins... I love it!

Dwemer ruins are the most exciting places in Skyrim indeed. I actually think there's too few of them, would be awesome with some more added in a future DLC.

It's part of the main story line. Here's a link to the book! It's a fascinating read! :)

The first ruin I visited was one called Mzulft.
I wasn't very impressed until I got to some grand hallway areas with flags and stuff.
Then I just stood there and stared at it, wishing the whole game looked like that. lol

Maybe the females stay out of sight and only the males are out and about? I tried to think if I've ever seen a female falmer, but I can't recall ever being able to determine the gender of any falmer. Maybe they are like Gollum, they have lost everything they once were. They are just grizzled, blind, "things" that move in the dark.

maybe somewhere secret there is a dwemer master mould creating new spiders and centurions ready to take the dark age races into an industrial age of reason.

I agree with you as well.
The Dwemer ruins was one of the best things in Morrowind now they are one of the best things in Skyrim.
It also actually feels and looks like the Dwemer lived there ages ago.
I also like the style of the Dwemer ruins it captures the feel of the ruins in Morrowind, but they are made fitting the area of the frozen land of Skyrim, just like how the Dwemer ruins of Vvardenfell fit being built on the slops of a volcano.
