Thieves Guild Master Armor

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:49 am

I was just curious what EXACTLY i have to do to get this...ive done all the main quests, the nightingale stuff, and like 20 jobs from Vex and Delvin....The wikis say thats all you need to do, but i still cant get the armor.... Im sick of doing generic "go here, do the same thing, come back" quests. Do i have to keep doing these lame tasks until they have no more to give me, or are they infinite? Just getting frustrated, ive done more than enough to earn the armor....

Your character has to do 5 jobs in each hold, and you must complete all of the major radiant quests (after the main TG quest is through). It does take some time. I have the official guide, so I am pretty sure this info is accurate, if not, someone will probably correct me.

I haven't even gotten to the part of the TG when all of the fences start appearing, although I have beaten the actual quest line.

Once youve completed 5 jobs in each of the 4 holds, you will get offered a 'special' job from Delvin. Once youve completed all 4 special jobs, and returned the skeleton key, youll get a ceremony, and become guildmaster.

Well this is a new one. I think. All over the web one finds the questions of people asking how to unlock the 'One With The Shadows'-achievement, after they've gotten rid of their old Thieves Guild Armor and therefore can not upgrade it with Tonilia. Well, I now have *both* Thieves Guild armors, the regular -upgraded- set and the Guild Master set. However, what I do not have, is the 'One WIth The Shadows'-achiev, and it's quite frustrating I can tell you!

So I did finish all the special city quests, I did undergo the ceremony making me master of the guild, and I have upgraded my old guild armor with Tonilia. But my achievement has not unlocked, much to my disappointment (as I wanted to go for the 100%). Only reason I can think of why it didn't, is that I was only carrying the armor-bit of my old Thieves Guild set when I went to Tonilia to upgrade (so not the boots, hood, gloves, which were still on the mannequin at my Solitude house). She did upgrade me the full Guild Master set, nevertheless the achievement did not unlock (in spite of messages everywhere saying that ones she supplies you with the Guild Master set, it will). All I get from Devlin and Vex since then are repeat quests, and as for loading an old save.. not an option (too much time spent on other quests and leveling my skills since becoming Guild Master).

Guess I'll have to take the shame of always having that one greyed-out achievement in my stats. (unless anyone has any brilliant offerings of solution!)

You don't upgrade to your Guild Master set-- she just gives it to you. You still keep your old Thieve's Guild set. I don't know why you didn't get the achievement, but I highly doubt it's what you think.

Hmhm.. Well, unless someone else has unlocked the achievement with getting the Guild Master set carrying just one item from the original Thieves Guild set, I suspect game was coded to expect 4 Thieves Guild items to release the final achievement. But, only way to know for sure is to replay I guess.. and although I do not intend of taking my gameplay back to this episode (as I have run through dozens of quests since), I did find a save relatively short before 'Dainty Sload' (the last of special missions before becoming Guild Master). So your reply has now officially motivated me to replay 'Dainty Sload' and run by the ceremony once again, this time in full guild armor. Surely this time it will unlock the achievement, which will not rid me of that nagging feeling of it missing in my latest saves, eh! Haha. Oh, well. At least it's for the good of the few that have yet to go through this, perhaps.

This was a bit unclear to me as well.

You have to do what are called "Small Jobs" (Fishing, Bedlam, Burlgarly, Numbers, etc) from Vex and Delvin. You have to do 5 in each city. They can be any combination from Vex and/or Delvin, but you have to do 5 in each city. Then Delvin will give you one "Special Job" in each of the cities (other than Riften). After those and returning the Skeleton Key you'll get the ceremony.

@Bushu: did you do the Moon Sugar quest for Tonilia? I don't recall if it was required for Guildmaster or not.

@buckom; Indeed I did. And actually, I am confused all over again. So, in order to unlock 'One With The Shadows'.. you have to do the 5 special ops in each city after completing 'Under New Management', is that correct? Because see; I did not get 'Under New Management' until I'd completed those special missions (Imitation Amnesty, Silver Lining, Summerset Shadows, The Dainty Sload, and the Nightingale questline), It wouldn't make sense to go and do all those smaller and special missions again to unlock the actual 'One With The Shadows' achievement, would it!? Is the achievement 'One With The Shadows' normally unlocked once 'Under New Managements' completes, or do you need to do the 5-per town quests after that? Because as it seems, I did those before that already, lol.

Oh btw, I replayed the old save, went through the ceremony in full guild gear, got promoted and received the Guild Master gear from Tonilia again. But there was no change with my original gameplay result (in other words; again 'One With The Shadows' was not unlocked). In a way I'm glad, but still I'm slightly annoyed about not knowing where things went wrong.

Bushu - dont listen to crazy ol' Buck, hes misunderstood your question.

You appear to have done everything correctly - if you hadnt completed the special jobs and returned the key, you wouldnt have been named guild master. no idea why the achievement isnt unlocking.

If you got the ceremony and the Guildmaster's Armor that was supposed to be Under New Management. I just wasn't sure if Under New Management and Tonilia's Moon Sugar quest had to be done for the One with the Shadows Achievement/Trophy. I don't actively pursue Trophies/Achievements and am just like, "Cool." when they pop up so IDK the exact requirements for that one. :P

You didn't get it on the replay either? :o That's F-ed. <_<

Not sure if it bugs out the achievement or not (I know a few of them, like the Standing Stones, are bugged), but you can definitely do all of the special jobs/missions before getting the 'Under New Management' quest, and it shouldn't affect you being able to become guild master. I just double-checked UESP, and there's no mention of a bug with the achievement. Are you on a PC or console? If you're on the PC, maybe a mod is interfering? Or if you had to use console commands I *think* that certain ones disable achievements (possibly just for that session)? If you're on a console and none of that applies, I have no clue.

Thank you all for the responses. After all that's been said and done (.. *grins*), I think maybe it's due to me playing an unpatched version of TESV, although with all the reading I've done about it online, I have never seen any bug mentioned affecting this specific quest/achievement. I am playing on PC, and have not used any console commands, although even if I would've.. using them does not prevent the awarding of achievements, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Achievements. For me at least, the only thing left to try the unlock of 'One With The Shadows', is running the latest patch and see what happens when I replay the final 'Under New Management' sequence. I'll have a go at it again some day.

Finally, another thing worth mentioning (considering thread-title) is, that it does not matter whether one receives Thieves Guild Master armor or not, for the unlock of 'One With The Shadows' (as elsewhere I've read several forum entries from people that completed the guild missions and unlocked the achievement without it). It's only important to keep the original Thieves Guild armor until finishing 'http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Loud_and_Clear', which is when Tonilia upgrades one piece of it.

Just to add more data--

I did not have any TG armor when I received my Master set. I had the Nightingale apparel, but not the regular Thieve's Guild set.

I did NOT do Tonalia's quest.

I did NOT do Vekel's quest.

I did all of Vex's and Delvin's jobs (and the special jobs) before returning the Skeleton key.

I received the trophy.

It's just a glitch. I also didn't get one of the trophies for the Dark Brotherhood even though the quest completed and is in the completed list in my journal. No idea why it didn't register. It's very frustrating. And I have no desire to play the whole game again for one trophy that I should have already received.

Maybe the patch will fix it. After the 1.4 I got a quest completed messaged for the Ormund's Request because I had the Staff of Charming before I got that quest. The messaged popped up as soon as I logged in - I hadn't done anything - so maybe your Achievement will pop up.

These are really bad bugs because Trophies/Achievements are important to a lot of people. :o I know many people get Xboxes just because they like the Achievement/Gamer Point system better than the Trophy system on PS3.

You must be one of the lucky ones. The patch didn't fix anything at all in my game other than the mannequins and book racks. All my broken side quest objectives are still broken and I still have a book in my inventory because I found it before receiving the quest.
Never got the trophy for killing Victoria Vicci for the Dark Brotherhood even though it's in my completed list in my journal and I finished all the DB quests.
Over 700 hours and I'm still waiting for the courier to show up for "repairing the White Phial".
None of the patches have helped me at all. And I was one of the people who they requested a game file from.

I'm damn lucky with Blood on the Ice because it worked on both of my characters pre-1.4 and on my 2nd one I did two big no-no's.
Spoiler
I took Muiri's contract and I killed both of her targets before starting Blood on the Ice. :o

I'll have to check, but I seem to remember something popping up for killing Victoria Vicci.

That being said I haven't seen the Courier for that either. :o I'll check my "Books" because I've gotten a couple of Courier visits, but I'm pretty sure when I checked they were the 'mysterious power source' ones.

It's been over 200 hours since I gained access to the "Throat of the World" so I'm obviously never going to get the 2nd part of the quest if I haven't got it by now. So frustrating. I managed to work my way around every major quest bug (Just a few minor objectives that I couldn't complete) but couldn't do this one. I did everything right too. I gave the cracked Phial to Norelion and he's been asleep and dying for months now. Nothing I've tried has triggered the courier though. Have no idea why it won't trigger.
As much as I love this game, it's these little annoying things that keep piling up that really piss me off.

I don't know what happened with the Victoria thing. I killed her like I was suppose to. I returned to Astrid, got my reward and the quest completed. But I never got the trophy for it.
The weird part is that if I go to where the wedding was taking place, the guy is still there playing the flute like the wedding is still going on. One of the wedding guests was dead and in her undies when I got there too. So it seems like part of the game still thinks it's going on even though I got the quest completed in my journal.
I got the "Hail Sithis" trophy too. Which is kind of funny seeing you need to complete the other one just to get to Hail Sithis. You'd think the game would recognize that.

:shakehead: Damn. I guess "Waiting" wouldn't make any difference if it's acting like it's still going on when you leave and return.

Sometimes, things end up being so much more simple than thought originally.
Now, before I get flamed for not trying *all* the obvious before posting here;
I thought I did, when I did.. I just never thought to.............
Play Skyrim with Steam-cloud enabled..!!?

Thing is, all my other achievements had unlocked normally, and were still unlocking, after completion (yet failure to unlock) 'One With The Shadows', without ever having the cloud enabled. I just let the game sync after exiting, and ran a sync manually a few times when encountering these and similar issues. Earlier I'd posted here that maybe I should patch my copy of TESV to solve this bug, but once I went into the config to arrange that, it turned out the game was set to be kept up to date all the time (so contrary to my beliefs, I was playing the patched version after all). It was only then though, that I encountered the option to use Steam-community overlay during gameplay (again); this was something I'd disabled back in my Call of Duty days as it was causing me to experience major lag and random crashes during coop backthen. Well, so I re-enabled it, went back to my old save and completed the final Thieves Guild quest one more time.

And what do ya know? :bunny: Unlocked Achievement 'One With The Shadows'......
...hence, I now have unlocked all 50 of them, got my desired 100% completion,
and therefore need not be frustrated, anymore! Yay.
So remember kids; always (or at least once every year *grins*) keep your Steam-cloud enabled during gameplay.

Return to V - Skyrim
