The Unkillable Guard.. what the?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:45 am

I had to steal a message from a courier as part of a quest task. Unfortunately me and my Follower were forced to kill him. It was in a small Inn and we ran away, far away...

Much later while travelling the wilderness, a Guard from nowhere runs up to us, "You committed a crminal act. Come with me to jail or die!" Or words to that effect.

"I`m afraid not," I say.

"Then die!"

He`s on his own in the middle of nowhere. My Follower, Lydia and I start smacking his face in. I stun him with my SHOUT then chop and slice with my two-handed sword.

The guard is overwhelmed and falls to the floor. he huffs and puffs. Lydia stops attacking. I think about leaving him and running, but he`ll just keep chasing so, sorry, he must die...

I SHOUT, stab him, chop, cut, kick bite... I step back exhausted....

He jumps up, "Twas merely a scratch! DIE!"

We batter him again to the ground. He crawls about, near death. I batter him over and over again. I stop. Two seconds later he`s up again-

"But we battered you with everything! You should be dead!" I cry.

"Nonsense! I felt nothing! Die, criminal!"

Ater about 10 minutes of this, I and Lydia decided to run away. But he caught us up again - "Pay 1000 fine or jail! What`s it to be?"

I put my hands up in resignation..

"Smart decision..." He says.

Yep, You can`t beat super unkillable Mr. guard.

Well that svcks. The only similiar situation I have is the silver hand guy from Markath runs up to me randomly to fight but it is no big deal as I hit him once and he runs away saying he can't defeat me. I always picture a look of puzzlement on the NPC faces when it happens.
I also ended up serving a prison sentence from Markarth when I tried to rest in Breezehome.

Yes there seems to be a few too many indestructible NPC's floating around. ;)

I have a similar situation. On my second character there are 3 copies of Louis Letrush standing outside the white run stables. For whatever reason they are in a semi circle around the npc from Azura's shrine, don't know why she is there but she still has her arms up like she is praising Azura. Well anyways I pick pocketed one of the Louis' and he caught me, then all 4 of them attacked me and of course they're all invincible.

So I was forced to flee with 3 Louis Letrush, the Azura woman and a horse my follower somehow pissed off all chasing me.

Was truly bizarre

A Terminator guard? Well that explains why they all sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Yea. I don`t understand why the guard was unkillable. Shouldn`t the game let me kill him and respawn fresh guards back where he came from?

I mean, he`s not even anyone important to the quest lines.

It don`t make sense.

There are way too many invincible npcs in Skyrim. I remember one time I was walking towards Whiterun after just starting a new character, and I saw those Companions fighting that giant at the farm. So I ran up to help, but right as I got there, the giant died, and my sword swing hit Ria in the face...

So then she started attacking me, and I couldn't figure out how to yield, so I just killed her and casually walked away. But then she got right back up and started attacking me again. So I killed her like four times, and then realized it was hopeless and just ran. She chased me all over the place for like five minutes before I finally just gave up and let her kill me. It was so lame.

Yeah I'm a big fan of Skyrim but invincible guards that never loose agro was the stupidest thing ever. It's really ruined a couple great moments for me.

Unkillable NPC'S is one of the huge mistakes Beth has made with the series. With their introduction in Oblivion, and inclusion in Skyrim, it's truly a bad mechanic.

If I want to break my game, LET ME.

"But what if an animal kills them or a random radiant AI accident!"

Simple; make essential NPC's killeable only by you.
