So, RANDOMLY somehow during the Civil War I got the option to buy Hjerim from the Ulfric's Steward. (The CW is the only thing i've done for Windhelm, I know I was surprised too..)

Anywho, I cleanup the butcher letters, all that crap.. grab the amulet about to go sell it to Calixto. Here's where the problem begins.

HE HAS HIS DOOR ON MASTER LOCK 24/7! >.<

I actually managed to pick it and get inside... "You really shouldn't be in here. Get out before I call the guards!".. umm okay. Kept trying several times going back in and he just kept saying it. So I said screw it.. I'll wait 24 hrs and see what happens?

MASTER LOCKED AGAIN! -.-

What in the hell is going on here? I've NEVER had this issue with his shop..

i had this problem once as well. had you ever visited his museum before starting Blood on the Ice

No. Not once have I been in there. (I never do until I gotta sell this amulet) it's the only reason I DO go in there lol.

And really after I got the Amulet I just asked the Steward about it (like I normally do) and he said to take it to Calixto so I did.

Sry for the double post but.. I got it fixed somehow.

I selected Blood on the Ice as my active quest and went to talk with the crazy lady. Eventually put The Unliving in Jail. After that I went back to his HoC and it was still on Master Lock.

Waited until 9-10AM and it finally opened up. Inside getting the tour and about to sell the amulet. Thank GOD this didn't glitch.. I did NOT want to be part of that crowd..

EDIT: OKAY.. for some reason now I can't sell him the Amulet. It doesn't come up in dialogue whatsoever. It IS in my inventory so.. yea..

EDIT2: And now I can't talk to Wuunferth about clearing his name.. wth is going on..?

If you show him the amulet, you don't have to have him arrested and you're able to prevent another murder.

Thats why i asked, cos the only time i ever had an issue with the locked door in five playthroughs was when I didnt visit the museum before starting the quest. I just went straight to viola like you did, and ended up with the amulet stuck in my inventory as well. not sure why you cant talk to the wizard though, have you put him in jail yet, or not?

I took the amulet to Jorleif the Steward. Afterwards he grabbed a Windhelm Guard and proceeded to take him down in the Barracks and lock him up. ONLY dialogue option I have is: "I would like to train in Destruction Magic."

That's it..

EDIT: And once again.. tried going back to Calixto.. MASTER LOCKED DOOR. yay! -.-

uesp says to spend three nights outside windhelm, and then when you return you should see a new crime scene, and get a new directive to speak to wuunfurth in prison.

Whenever I do this quest(once so far that has let me progress at all) Calixto is standing against a wall right outside the entrance to the Jarl's place beside candlehearth hall,. right next to a staircase going down to the grey district.

Did, waited 72 hrs and went back in.. nothings new at all. Even went to talk to Wuunfurth. Same dialogue. I'll try waiting another 3.. sigh
