Problem With Racial Abilities

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 6:13 am

Anyone else notice the game reducing the worth of racial abilities? I really noticed it with my current character, a Dunmer. She is level 21 and has yet to come against anything that uses a fire attack, and to many humanoid enemies (bandits, mages, etc.) are Dunmer. This is my 4th character and the increase in number of Dunmer is excessive. Ancestor's wrath is about worthless because of it. I try to save it for boss fights or when overwhelmed by enemies such as bandits. It svcks when at least half of them are Dunmer. I had a similar issue with my Nord. There were very few ice using attackers (to include frost weapons). My Breton found very few random enemy mages. Only my Imperial seems to find things in ratio.

I also have a hard time finding what I want for the class I'm playing. My 2-Hand warrior found Muffle boots, but couldn't find a magic steel warhammer. My thief finds magic 2-handed weapons laying all over the place, but no muffle boots. My mage can't find a staff that uses Adept or better spells, but my fighters can. I had similar issues with Oblivion and Fallout 3/FONV.

That's interesting. I hardly ever see Dunmer. In fact.... (considering my latest toon....) I don't see elves of any version much. Not even orsimer - except in areas where they are expected (the strongholds, the smithies, and places like Cracked Tusk Keep). Very interesting.

Dragons frequently use fire, and one tends to encounter quite a lot of them over the course of the game. Most dungeons contain at least a few mages so I have no clue how your not encountering them. Some dungeons are almost exluisvely casters. My Nord encountered at least a dozen frost using enemies by level 10. A Bretons magic resistance also applies to dragons breath. The spell absorption for 60 seconds ability will even effect shouts such as unrelenting force. So it can stop you from being hurled across a room by high level Duregar.

These for sure.

I've played a Nord as both of my characters - the only other choice would've been a Dunmer for the Fire Resistance. I complement my Nord's Frost resistance with Fire and Shock Resistance on footwear...and then I OP myself with a ring and necklace with Frost, FIre, Shock, and Magic Resistance.

The Argonian's disease resistance and waterbreathing are pretty useful, too. Bosmer poison resistance sounds good, but I've never been troubled much by poison.

And, as mentioned, I could see the Breton's magic resistance as pretty useful.

Of course, these are actually attributes - I wish the abilities would have cooldowns of less than 24 hours. :o

Wow, it seems that 1 out of every 2 bandits I face are either Dark Elves or Orcs.

I'm not running the MQ (last two characters) so I don't have dragons. I'm mostly referiing to wilderness encounters - as I wrote "random". I do find what I'm supposed to find in dungeons. Races change, but mages, etc. are there; however with her they are mostly ice mages/necromancers (half of them Dunmer), with the Nord it was mostly fire/shock mages.

The bandit groups I encounter almost always have an orc with them. Frequently he/she is the chief. Never fun dealing with a berserk orc wearing a full set of Steel Plate armor and a magic weapon or two.

This character just found a necklace w/100% poison resistance. It doesn't work. Every fight (since wearing it) she has had against spiders she has been poisoned, sometimes twice in one fight (multiple spiders). I'm beginning to think it is actually a necklace of 100% getting poisoned.

All Resistances are capped at 85%, so even if an item or ability grants 100% Resistance, it doesn't grant the full 100%, since it caps at 85%. Why you can still be diseased as a Werewolf/Vampire, poisoned as a Vampire, take Frost damage as a Lvl 4 Vampire, etc.

I think it varies between races. I for one have been finding the Skyrim version of Voice of the Emperor rather hand on my combat inclined Imperial. It's a handy skill if I end up biting off more than I can chew or I need to retreat.

You sure? I can stand in a dragon's breath (fire or frost) and take 0 damage.

The exception to this is absorb spell. If you are a Breton with Atronach stone, when you cast dragonskin power you are 100% immune to magic for 60 sec.

And also the exception of using the vampire/necromage/atronach perk/stone for 100% spell absorbtion as a vampire.
