[I'm new] How can I rename items I already have without ench

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 10:21 am

Is there any known method of doing this, Creation Kit or not?

You may want to check this out:
No CK needed. Just go to an enchanting table as though you were going to enchant something, then rename it, and craft with no enchantment.
I haven't been on to confirm it myself, but I think it may be legit.

Same for X360 here. Either you name it before you finalize the enchantment process, that or it just keeps it's original name.

But no, you can't just grab say a Forsworn Axe and give it a name without enchanting it, no.

As far PC goes.. I have no clue.. i'm sure there's something out there that'll let you. Hell you can do anything on PC.. lol.

EDIT: Just read your post as soon as I posted this. I'm going to go and try it right now.. if this works you my friend are AWESOME.

Don't thank me, thank Echonite. He/she is the one who told me about it. I just quoted them from another thread.

Nope, it HAS to have an enchantment. The process he explains doesn't work because when you hit "Craft" it tells you that you still need an enchant and a soul gem.

Even after putting an enchant and soul gem on it, renaming it.. then taking both off it just resets the name.

So as far as console goes.. no you can't UNLESS you enchant it.

Just tried it. Every time I remove the Soul Gem or the Enchantment:
1) The custom name is cleared.
2) I get the message "Select Soul Gem" or "Select Enchantment" when I try to activate the Craft button.

Maybe it works on Xbox 360.

Just rename it, then exit out of the enchanting table. Seemed to work on the PC version. I only discovered this by accident.

Nope, if you read my post right above yours.. you'd know lol. Apparently only on PC because I'm guessing your PS3?

Yes...that was mentioned in the 2nd post and quoted in the 3rd post. :P

I didn't see your post because I was going back and forth between the game and this thread while you posted it. I always read every post in a thread so I don't look like an idiot by posting the exact same thing as someone else. In this case you posted while I was restesting the renaming process before posting and I chose not to delete what I had typed and put: "Edit: PS is same as above.".

Pirate Princess Robes FTW! Noble Clothes with Fortify Health Regen and Disease Resistance (I think - I'm not in the game, but I think those are the enchants I put on them.).

Edited for item name correction.

I actually do a lot of looking into lore and stuff to make sure I name items properly when enchanting them. If I don't get it right, I make them again. /OCD

I just try to name them logically. Since my chick isn't of noble birth and gained her money by adventuring and TGing and DBing she's more of a Pirate Princess or a Bandit Queen. :P

I named my Daedric Dagger with Soultrap on it Daedric Dagger of Soulace. :D

Haaa the last bit is cute. But yeah, depending on my character's overall...everything, I name it based on whatever's near and dear to them. Like for my Khajiit character, she reveres the Daedra and being a cat person likes the Moons. So her daggers are called Daedric Dagger of Masser and Daedric Dagger of Secunda, her helmet is called "Helm of Mephala's Whispers" etc.

Well, there you go. :P

Question about Daedric Daggers: do they have scabbards if you wield them in your primary hand?

The main reasons I use Ebony Daggers on my chick assassin are:
1) They look a little more ladylike than Daedric ones.
2) They have scabbards when worn on the waist and for some reason I suspected that the Daedric ones don't.
3) With the backstab/throat slash animation the Ebony Daggers look a little more natural since the spine looks more like a sharpened edge than the spine of the Daedric Daggers. :(

I....honestly have not noticed if they do or don't. I just love Daedric stuff, that's why I use it. It looks baller and evil and stuff. :B

Yeah, they're the right amount of evil! Also, I didn't feel like turning my 360 on. S'all the way on the other side of my room and junk. >>

I just try this again, and it no longer seems to be working. Must've been a glitch that's been fixed.

That's a good plan. Call that Plan A.

I just equipped the Daedric and, yeah, there's no scabbard. :( That's dangerous. :geek:

Damn. I wish we could rename them even if we just used a Soul Gem and didn't truly Enchant - I'd be OK with that as long as we didn't have to use a Grand or Black to do it.
