WTF is Civil War?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 10:05 pm

Ok, I'm having a really difficult time unerstanding what this stupid Civil War crap is all about.

Can someone please explain? Is it part of the main questline with Balgruuf's requests, the Greybeards? etc.

Or is it a completely different quest that I have to get. I mean, I talk to any important NPC, and I have the option to ask their 'stance' on the war, but it never does anything other than give storyline or walls of text.

I want to know the meaning of this. Any help would be appreciated.

The civil war affects the main quest only slightly. You can remain neutral or optionally you can side with the empire or stormcloaks and take the war to some conclusion. it's not necessary. If you are looking for the 'why', etc I'd suggest an elder scrolls wiki (e.g. UESP).

To start the main quest you either need to go to Solitude and formally support the Empire or go to Windhelm to formally support the Stormcloaks. It's separate to the main quest, which involves the return of the dragons.

Have you considered actually reading that wall of text?

Just because It's a wall of text makes you automatically assume that I don't read it? I want to join the stormcloaks, I don't give a [censored] about storyline, frankly im doing it so I can unlock a certain House.

You can get Hjerim no matter which side you support in the civil war, though earlier if you join the Stormcloaks.

You want us to summarize the civil war story line so you don't have to listen to any dialogue? Why? Just do your quests, get your house. What are you even posting on the forum about?

The fact that you were totally in the dark about the information contained in the 'wall of text' means that you clearly did not read it. Or in this case, you didn't listen to it since everything's voiced now...

I don't give a [censored] about storyline,

Ugh... If you -really- feel that way, then find a different game to play. Seriously. Elder Scrolls is about story, it's about exploring, and reading the books and doing an RPG. Sounds like that isn't for you.

Correction, I do care about the storylines, but if they give me a chat option with their stance on the war, which does NOT pertain to me finding or being able to do the quest, then there's no point in even sitting around reading it.

Not to mention I HAVE read it before, so I'm not "totally in the dark".

You don't need to join the Stormcloaks in order to be able to buy Hjerim.

I know, and stormcloaks are out of the question.

I need to do 'part' of the Civil War questline, according to the wiki. Frankly as long as I can do that, I don't give a damn whose side i'm on.

Although, since I have been reading a bit of the storyline, I'm more eager to join the stormcloaks. It's more or less about the actual questline instead of the side i'm on.

Then you should know what the civil war is about. Why did you post this in the first place?

You know those quests in your quest log that say

Join the Stormcloaks

and

Join the Imperial Army

?

Do those quests. When you do them, more quests will appear. Do those too. You don't have to read or comprehend a damn thing. Just follow the glowing quest arrow and alternate between hammering on the talk button and the attack button.
